Cannibalise JVC BM-H1400PN-K for a JVC BM-H2000PN?

Post by coderkind »

Hi all,

I've been using a JVC BM-H1400PN-K for a while (and been very happy with it), but got hold on a 20'' variant today (JVC BM-H2000PN). When I got it home however, the unit wouldn't power on; the green light appears very briefly when I first plug a power lead into the back and press the ON button, but nothing after repeated attempts. The tube never activates.

I'm wondering... given the synopsis above... does anyone think it's possible to transfer whichever part(s) are needed by the larger monitor from the smaller set?

I've never attempted CRT repairs before (but know about discharging the tube before attempting anything like this). Does this sound like a worthwhile task, or would the smaller set probably use incompatible parts anyway?

Or are there simpler things I can try with the larger set before going down this road?

Thanks for any help/advice on this.

I would try fixing the 20" motherboard.

I had a larger monitor get damaged in transport and found out that the PCB cracked so I got no display. Soldered a few patch wires around the gap and it came to life.

Sometimes it's an easy fix but I think it's worth it. Having a similar working one might help the diagnosis, too.

It might be an easy fix for someone who knows their way around a CRT, but I'm not that person. Unfortunately resigned to returning it now.

If it was damaged during shipping they might just refund you and tell you to trash it if their insurance covers it. Then you can tinker, at least.

That would've been the best case scenario, but they insisted on it back for the refund :(
