I've been calibrating the geometry of my BVM D24, and I'm having a problem trying to resolve what looks like the width being 'pinched' from left to right. Here is a picture of the issue:
It can be quite noticeable with side scrollers where the image un-squeezes from right to left. I've tried tinkering in the alignment and E-board settings but haven't been able to find anything that changes this specific parameter.
Does anybody here have experience with this particular geometric issue?
What you're referring to is a quirk with all crt's. It was driving me crazy too and pushes most people's ocd buttons I'm sure. This happened on my BVM20G1U too. I picked up a second G1U and found it had the exact same issue pretty much in the identical area as well (eventhough were different dates on the back iirc).
For the record on my two bvm's the behavior was on the left side of the picture, when scrolling left and right it looked like the picture was rolling over a vertical lump, shrinking and then expanding again. You might even find the thread I made about it some 6+ years ago or so. On the PVM was vertical instead of horizontal and on the top part of the screen, not bad on left to right scrolling but noticeable in vertical scrolling games.
I found these to stand out more on pro monitors, and on the whole less noticeable on consumer crt's so maybe that's why we don't hear about as much. In my opinion this is because that behavior happens in more areas of the screen (and less concentrated) on consumer crt's, creating consistent inconsistencies, if that makes any sense. lol
On a pro monitor the geometry looks quite close to a modern lcd display, and then you get this one section of the screen where things warp and it can be a little jarring.
