PC output to consumer CRT

Post by Wigz81 »

Im trying to ouput from my pc with 5450 running CRTemudriver using YPbPr like the rest of my consoles. Im using an Extron Crosspoint Plus 168 for switching duties using component cables and also have an RGB202rxi sitting around. I tried usong a vga to component adapter but it doesnt transcode the signal so its useless. I was wondering if i can run it through the rxi with vga ajd output with component or if something like the VSC500 would be better. I have 5 consumer crts that serve specific functions and would like to be able to switch between my 36FV310 (Horizontal games) and a 27FS120 (Vertical Games). Any help on making this work would be greatly appreciated.

All you need is to build or buy a VGA to SCART cable. Set up the 5450 through CRTEmuDriver to output a 15KHz resolution and composite sync (it will be output on the horizontal sync pin, make sure that pin is tied to pin 20 on your SCART), then connect the SCART to a RetroTink RGB2COMP or a CSY2100 clone to bring component into your set. Thats all you need to do.

VGA DE-15 to 4BNC into Crosspoint w/ Emudriver set for composite sync & your desired resolution > 4BNC to SCART cable or VGA cable into a RGB to YPbPr transcoder

Ill look into getting the vga to scart cable. I have a retrotink rgb2comp transcoder that i was going to use for a different project. I was trying to use the arcadevga 5000 but it doesnt want to cooperate. I have 2 Asus HD5450 cards coming. One for the trinitrons and one for my leland cab. Any recommendations on a good source for the cable? I prefer to build if i can but between work and a newborn im strapped for free time.

For building one it's pretty straight forward, the one I made works great on my crt.

VGA to SCART is good if you plan on putting the transcoder before your Crosspoint, otherwise IDK what you'd do with it (unless you don't plan on using the Crosspoint for CRT Emudriver after all). If you're going to be using the PC output into the Crosspoint, I'd go with my suggestion in my other post... just would need a 4BNC to male SCART for the Crosspoint's output into the RGB2COMP. You could also also get one of these mechanical switchers for the RGB2COMP's output and use it backwards (RGB2COMP into the switcher's output, giving you three different component-capable displays to switch between. Just can't output to more than one at the same time/split the signal. But I don't think you said you were planning to do that anyway)

^ you could also use 4 RCA cables w/ male BNC connectors for the Crosspoint's output and plug em with one of these into the RGB2COMP, and just route the audio out from the PC to either the Crosspoint or directly into your display. If you route it into the Crosspoint, then just take the audio out from the Crosspoint and bypass the RGB2COMP and plug it in to your display, switchbox, wherever...

These SCART adapters can be found for around $14 w/ shipping included on eBay, and then male BNC to female RCA adapters are very cheap.

I just used a VGA to Component transcoder. Get a good one though as I found quality varied a lot.

This is my exact setup. Mike Chi makes good products, highly recommended.

For my setup ive avoided scart for the most part. The inputs to my crosspoint are just component cables as well as the outputs. I dont own any pvms so ive gone with YPbPr for everything. I had an rgb2comp for use with a minigun supergun for my cps2 setup. I never received the pcb for the supergun so thats on hiatus for a moment. Im essentially setting up to pcs at the moment. One for my cab and one for my crt setup. The cab setup is primarily for cps 1, 2, and 3 as well as ng mvs. The screen is going to be a bitch to rotate so ill use my crosspoint to switch between my yoko and tate crts.

My 8800GTS had S-Video/Component output through a proprietary video cable.

If the RGB2COMP is already dedicated to something else, then I'd go for a VGA to YPbPr transcoder after the PC and before the Crosspoint. Linuxbot3000 on eBay has very good ones. If those are sold out right now, then ideally you'd wanna get a non-scaling one, but I think there's some units where you can switch resolutions that also have lagless passthrough(?). Possibly the Lenkeng/other clones that look like said model. Fudoh should know.

With the VGA to YPbPr you also needn't worry about selecting composite sync in CRT Emudriver, could even use it on an HDMI-only laptop (depending on the GPU, of course) with a HDMI to VGA chained before it for 'portable CRT Emudriver' :P
