Can a PAL system be modded, to play 60hz NTSC games, properly? I don't have any PAL systems, but I am curious.

PS2 will play PS2 games at the GAMES refresh rate.

BUT

They will play PS1 games at the SYSTEMS refresh rate.

There is a homebrew launcher called PS1VModeNeg that in theory will play NTSC PS1 games at the correct speed on a PAL PS2. Unfortunately it's a bit of a pain in the butt to get working correctly, or at least it is for me.

I use a modded PAL 50004 PS2 and it took a LOT of trial and error to get an NTSC PS1 game up and running at the correct speed. At first I tried with modbo and Ghost V2 modchips but it didn't work no matter what settings I chose for those chips. I then managed to track down a DMS4 Pro and install that and it actually does work with this chip, but it involves jumping through a lot of hoops to get it working.

Only then will it launch the game at the correct speed. If I just try to run only PS1VModeNeg it will claim that no disc is inserted. A damn shame that it doesn't work any better, but still cool that it's possible to run games at the correct speed although it's such a hassle that I just ended up buying a Japanese PS1 :)

EDIT: Oh and v1.10 doesn't work at all for me. I believe I used 1.01.
