Getting Japanese games
Getting Japanese games
Hi, great site, got me right back into shmups
Seems afew classics in top 25 are only available in Japan
I'm happy to buy digital if easier route than discs
Got UK PS4 360 Xbox one switch PS3 (not into pc gaming)
Got my switch linked to Japanese eshop
Is it possible to do the same on the other consoles? Any advice appreciated
Don't want to buy import console or mod
Guess I'm after dodonpachi, mushihimesama, ketsui, battle garegga ,fever sos, espgaluda ll, raiden fighters etc, and any other exclusives I cant get easily in UK, thnx in advance

Re: Getting Japanese games
It's quite easy to get your PS4 on the Japanese shop. Just google it and you'll find easy instructions readily available. There's a few great exclusives there like Dangun Feveron, Sorcer Striker and the ones already mentioned that also have physical copies. All the consoles of this gen are region-free, so you can simply import physical copies of any games from play-asia.com or amazon.co.jp and they'll work no problem.

Re: Getting Japanese games
thnx, how about xbox one and 360? I thought 360 japan digital games wouldn't play on a uk 360
Re: Getting Japanese games

They change prices in your shopping-cart.
Just go CD-Japan, you dont have to order at play-asia.

Re: Getting Japanese games
Xbone should be good to go, but you're right that the 360 was region-locked for Japanese titles so you'd need an import console or a mod. PS4/Switch/Xbone are all good to go though, and there's a pretty damn good collection of shmups from this generation to explore if you haven't already.dmk1198 wrote:thnx, how about xbox one and 360? Re: Getting Japanese games
I don't have an Xbone personally, but I do know the selection is more limited than PS4. PS4 is probably the king this generation for shmups, though the Switch isn't too far behind it. PS4 will likely have better performance (less input lag) than a comparable Switch version, so if you're going to start searching I'd say to start with PS4 first.

Re: Getting Japanese games
Ginga Force is great although there is an English version coming out before too long that you might want to wait on as it's probably one of the few shmups that you actually want to be able to understand menus and such in due to its weapon/upgrade system.
And yes, Mahou Daisakusen is the Japanese title for Sorcer Striker, which sadly isn't (yet?) available in physical form, good game though.

Re: Getting Japanese games
While it's mentioned elsewhere on the forum, since nobody in this thread clarified, I'll post it again here.
There are three releases of ESPGaluda II on XBox 360. The limited edition, the regular edition and the platinum hits edition. The limited edition is region locked (this release includes the custom face plate) but the regular and platinum editions are region free. Those last two will run just fine on your UK 360.

Re: Getting Japanese games
Battle Garegga is pretty straightforward to buy on a UK Xbox one by changing your location to Germany. Dangun Feveron is available in Germany as well. No Sorcer Striker sadly.
Natsuki chronicles is also available on UK Xbox One but I've not tried that yet.

Re: Getting Japanese games
There's a physical Korean print of Battle Garegga that has a disc. Not sure how available it is at this point, but it's well worth seeking out, since it's the M2 ShotTriggers port on PS4. No English language support, I believe (unless someone can correct me), but it's not that difficult to get around the menus.
