The game's interface allows you to shoot with pinpoint accuracy. That does not mean that every player is good enough to shoot with pinpoint accuracy. It takes talent and practice.

Just like shooting is, you know, in real life.

I think you should just accept the fact you don't like FPSes and quit pretending there's something wrong with them to justify your dislike.

All genres have the potential to be equally fun. Same with movies/books/music. There are no inherently inferior genres. Just ones you don't like.

Because being having pinpoint accuracy makes the difference between coming back to a hero's welcome and coming back in a bodybag.

I know it's a matter of taste, but how else would we derail this thread?

You do, however, need to be able to move precisely in shmups, where pixel-perfect movements often mean the difference between a huge score and death.

You don't need to be able to have absolutely perfect aim in a FPS to win in one, but it's a good thing that amount of control is available. I want to be limited by my own skill, not by the controls.

It's a fun game. One could also ask what's the big deal about Final Fantasy, God of War, Forza, Gran Turismo, and numerous other franchises. It's a game people like to play so chillax...yo

Because how else are you going to rail a guy bunnyhopping at million miles per hour?

what's the big deal with ikaruga? it's just a shooter, they look all the same to me.
not to mention they're virtually impossible to play and you cant finish them unless you pump in the credits, they require WORK to be good at, meh, i dont wanna work for my wins, i just want to powerlevel my way to success.

as for FPS reliance on multiplayer, cleanly a live human with a live brain will never live up to programmed patterns. who needs aiming when you could just have auto aim? aiming takes skill, i dont want any of that. auto-aim makes me feel better about myself.
also, everytime i connect to a quake 3 server, i get owned, the game must suck, since i'm the epitome of awesomness, if i'm not successful at something, it must be the game's fault.

This is so true when speaking of gamers.

until the said gamer finds some way to exploit the pattern.

they COULD program the perfect CPU in some games, but what fun would that be?

i guess it's kinda like discussing the merits of sports to someone who never played any, you just have to experience it. playing against people is great fun.

The programs in modern shooting games seem to be winning against our human brains. I can play for 10 minutes-2 hours, stop whenever I want, not hear/read complaining and get a consistent expected challenge. All the benefits of not having to deal with people.

Sports and sports games are better. Less crap-and-gravel graphics.
