If not, well.
Hopefully, Sega will include Revenge of Death Adder as an unlockable.

That game is fucking amazing. If it doesn't push even more 360s... then... something is wrong with this world. That game... is just... wow.
Test Drive Unlimited looks like it has potential too (freeform racers seem to be something of an underserved genre) although the demo is buggy and prone to crashing.
Took me awhile to get used to "aiming" as well. But once I did I felt the implementation was for the better... really makes blast hordes of bugs/snow pirates much better!!!
Boss fight in the first mission... holy shit... never seen anything like it!
RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE!!!!!!
Well, at least both versions of the PS3 will be less than both releases of the PSX (NOT to be confused with the PS1/PSOne).... although, nobody really bought any of those.

It seems that Contra and Super Contra will both be available for download on XBLA! Unfortunately, from what I could see in the MS Press Conference video, it looks like the arcade versions, which, compared to the NES ports, have washed out graphics, crappy sound, and sluggish control.
As for the other new games-hasn't Peter Moore ever heard of Namco Museum or GBA Konami Classics? Although, I will say that Time Crisis looks as though it's gotten a pretty cool graphical makeover.
@BIG-I'd still like to know where those prices for NES, SNES, and N64 downloads came from, because Nintendo sure as heck hasn't said a word about the Virtual Console aspect of the Wii. In any case, I hardly think those prices are unreasonable-even on Ebay, with shipping, you'll pay more then $3 for ANY NES game, and there are plenty of SNES games that will run you more then 5$. $10 is a little high for some N64 games, but, again, that price is a bargain even compared to what you'll find at stores that sell N64 games.

If Metroid Prime was a 2D side-scrolling game, and it had been developed by Retro Studios, it would probably have sucked ass.

Metroid Prime is more of a First Person Action/Adventure game. Something NO ONE had ever done as well as Retro Studios. It has the best "platforming" control of any First Person game I've played.icycalm wrote:Metroid Prime is an FPS.VNAF Ace wrote:What difference does it make? Another little part of me died inside when I read this. I'm going to have to do it, finally. The NES had lots of ports. Lots of these were either slightly different, or very different to the original versions. NES owners loved them. However, the rest of us thought they were a LOAD OF OLD RUBBISH. Blocky, garish graphics, ear curdling sounds, arcade games turned into action platformers - a never ending procession of horror and mutilation.dave4shmups wrote:It seems that Contra and Super Contra will both be available for download on XBLA! Please - arcade ports should be exactly that. If you prefer the NES interpretation, play that, they're easily located on ebay as are the consoles, but arcade gamers want the arcade revision.

I just watched the trailer for Viva Pinata. It took a long time to download to my 360 because Microsoft don't seem to have worked out just how much people would download
Anyway - this is a game that made me feel positive about gaming, for a bit. It's not really something I would play, but the world would be a dull place without things like this coming along - if it's even halfway as silly as it looks.
I found a copy of the trailer online, sadly it doesn't work for me, but it plays the sound - the sound matches the trailer I have on the 360 so I assume it's the right thing. I'm on a Linux machine using Firefox, maybe this is an IE or Flash version issue. Hope it works for someone:

Really the sort of thing you'd expect during the Nintendo session. Bonus points for spotting a subtle film reference in there.

Whatever, all I'm trying to say here is that there were plenty of solid arcade-NES ports. No, they weren't perfect, but plenty were darn good. Good enough to help sell the system; people didn't expect perfect ports back then. Otherwise the NES would not have done near as well as it did.
At any rate, more OT, the Wii has a light gun...WHY Nintendo? This is clearly just the remote controller wrapped up in more plastic to make it LOOK like a real light gun

I thought the Wii was VGA capable. Which is pretty much HDTV. It wouldn't make sense if the Cube is HDTV capable, but not the Wii.dave4shmups wrote:

At any rate, here are the first screenshots of PSP Battlezone!:

Only time will tell, of course, but, graphically at least, that looks like one kick-arse update to the original classic!

Older Gamecube models did have a digital output jack that could allow component output, but only in 480p (Progressive Scan) and only on games that supported it (the digital input was later removed, and the component cables go for ridiculous prices on eBay these days.) The Xbox was the only one of its generation to actually be able to output HD, although most games would only do 480p (a few could output 1080i and/or 720p, although this was more the exception than the rule.) The dashboard was also limited to 480i until a dashboard update later added a way to display it in 480p.
Ahhh, Dreamcast... how we love the simplicity and raw power of your VGA output.Vexorg wrote:Older Gamecube models did have a digital output jack that could allow component output, but only in 480p (Progressive Scan) and only on games that supported it (the digital input was later removed, and the component cables go for ridiculous prices on eBay these days.) Well, thanks for the clarification on all that.
Right now, I'd say Microsoft is on top. Sony hasn't shown any games that look any better then 360 games (and they should look a LOT better for the price), and Nintendo gave us NO price, abd NO release date for the Wii, and NO details about the Virtual Console (no offense to BIG, but I want to hear it strait from the horse's mouth). No confirmation of Genesis, TG-16, or Turbo Duo games. The controllers look cool, but could we not have seen more then 5 seconds of Mario Galaxy footage, Nintendo?? So now no one can preorder the Revolution after E3 wraps up. Brilliant Nintendo.
I'd give Nintendo a D at this point, Sony a D-, and Microsoft an A+.
