Minimum spec for running '80s '90s games in HLSL in MAME

Post by filevans »

Hello all,

Please does anyone know the Minimum spec for running '80s '90s games in HLSL in MAME?

My PC is a core2duo 2.8ghz with an ATI Radeon HD 4350 graphics card and I get about 40fps with HLSL enabled. And would like to know if I buy another graphics card I can get early '90s games running at full speed with HLSL?

Thanks a lot all

Hard to say. HLSL or other shaders do use GPU resources and thats probably whats limiting you there. You would probably do well to get a faster GPU. RX550 would probably be fine if the connector is compatible with your system.

As far as CPU for MAME, a Core2 Duo E8400, 8500 or 8600 should be your minimum target for your platform. Anything faster, AMD or Intel, and you'll need a new mobo and RAM.

Thanks a lot for all the info

I've got the Dell Vostro 220 does that have a socket compatible with that graphics card? Also I read it supports some quad core processors

Are there any other graphics card with a similar spec I could try and look around for? What is the exact thing HLSL needs from the GPU? Just speed? (Apart from shaders 3.0 which I know)

Thanks alot
