Well, if Nintendo's Wee featured slots for Famicom, Super Famicom, N64 and maybe even Gameboy cartridges then it would have the largest library of games. But since it doesn't, in terms of quantity Sony wins. Being able to play all games that were made for Sony consoles in the past 10 years is a huge advantage.

Hopefully PS1 games will be further improved by the PS3; high-res graphics for 3D games would be much appreciated (the way PS1 games look when emulated on a PC (Bleem etc). A Hi-res filter for 2D games would be really cool too (like the one Magic Engine has, no blur-crap like Taito Legends please). I was a little disappointed when I got my PS2 and realized that the only improvements for PS1 games were optional smooth textures and faster loading times.

Higher resolutions can only do so much. It's not going to increase polygon count.

I can't see what's wrong with stealing ideas. After all, it's what humanity's advancement is based on.

Everything we see on the new consoles has its roots in something else - no idea is truly original.

Exactly. That is why patents slow down the progress of humanity and software patents and patents on genes must be averted at all costs.

For me, it all comes down to games, and all three consoles are covered in that area, so anything else doesn't amount to a hill of beans.

I hate Sony as much as the next guy but I can't take anyone who says "they steal ideas" seriously. Microsoft stole from sony and Xerox while Sony stole from Nintendo, which stole from Sega, and Atari, and Microsoft which stole from Atari which might have stolen from colecovision. We play in a den of theives, people.

And remember kids - "The next generation doesn't start until we say it does".

Statements like that are why I want Sony to get a bruising this time around. That and things like the whole DRM on CDs thing that they never actually apologised for.

Don't think of it as "stealing".

Think of it as inspiration. Sony was inspired by Nintendo.

Doesn't look that bad now...?

And the PS3 lies... they were just eager to do their best and please gamers, that they ended up overreaching themselves.

Agreed. Nintendo ate humble pie, Sega ate humble pie, Atari ate humble pie. Unless these are incredibly deceiving tactics, or Nintendo and MS mess up really bad, Sony's got a triple ration of pie coming. With Atone-mint ice cream on the side.

More possible lies,

http://xbox360.qj.net/Was-the-PS3-reall ... /aid/39051

Says that PS3 game Assassins: Creed was actually running on an Xbox 360 using a third-party USB PlayStation controller.

Also says that Gran Turismo HD was being run on a PC, not a PS3.

Assassin's Creed has already been announced for XBOX 360 and will hit the shelves on Oct. 2, 2006. So it's possible that it was the 360 version.

It was my understanding it was being touted as a PS3 exclusive at E3. Was this announcement recent?

At this moment in time, Ubsioft is calling Assassin's Creed a PS3 exclusive.

There has been no talk from them on an Xbox 360 version, and it is not known if it has even been started.

Like I say, Ubisoft (that's the company that is making it BTW) has made no mention of a 360 version of Assassin's Creed and is calling it a PS3 exclusive.

Right. But when you play PS1 games on PS3, you should be able to get rid of that blockiness plaguing the textures in many a PS1 game. I've played Side by Side Special on the PC using Bleem, and some road signs that are rendered almost illegible on the actual Sony hardware look crisper on PC without the blockiness or blurriness.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

You should be aware that UK Resistance is a quasi-satirical site made by Sega fantatics. They tend to exaggerate for comic effect rather a lot. :D

1. At this point, yes, they do (sadly).
2. Yeah, but sheer numbers don't mean much when the majority of stuff on the system is garbage. You can say it has a 1000+ games, but how many do you actualy want to own and play extensively out of that 1000+? There are definitely some great exclusives, but I don't play my PS2 for much of anything except shooter ports.
3. That may be so, but some things about this system definitely raise issue. I'm kind of seeing it like the PSP at this point, and that's not doing too well for Sony.

I just recently bought a 360. It doesn't have much right now, but what it does have is really damn good. Oblivion, CoD2 and PGR3 are all I need for now. And what's coming in the next year is looking great. Wii I honestly have no interest in owning; looks more like a novelty to me. At least it's reasonably priced though. PS3 is just too expensive. I struggled with myself justifying dropping $400 on a 360, so no way I'm going to drop $500-$600 on a PS3.

Bottom line, if you're interested in 360's game lineup, it's definitely the best buy for the next generation.
