Joystick for PC-Engine: finding durable SP3T toggle switchs

Post by SAM »

I am working on a project to build an Joystick controller with auto fire for the PC-Engine.

I plan to use the PCB of a standard PC-Engine game pad with auto fire. I figured I could wire the auto fire controls to a SP3T(Single Pole, Three Throw) toggle switchs (with 3 position; ON-OFF-ON). The idea is to wire the NO auto fire to the OFF; slow and fast auto fire to the two ON.

The problem is I could only find cheap low quality SP3T Toggle Switchs at the local electronic store which broke quickly.

I wish to find some good quality DURABLE SP3T toggle switchs online. But I don't know whcih brand or model to look for. So I ask for help here.

If you have other ideas on how to wire the auto fire controls, please share with me at here too.

I was thinking of doing something similar with a Saturn Virtua Stick PCB (a US one with membranes and not switches) that I was going to pad hack into a Hori RAP, but decided that I could just use my Seimitsu modded Japanese Virtua Stick if I needed turbo, since it doesn't matter if the buttons are as good quality as the RAP if I'm just going to be holding the button down the whole time anyways. Soldering all 8 turbo switches doesn't sound like fun, even if the Virtua Stick's PCB has fairly big pads to solder to.

Was also thinking of building a dedicated pinball controller for Alien/Devil's Crash now that 3rd party controllers are available again, but dunno if I'd actually use it that much.

Just to let you know; instead of cannibalizing a working pad, I made a PCB to to do exactly this: https://immerhax.com/?p=214

How durable the switches I used are, I must say I have no idea, I have had no issues with them yet, however right now I can't remember where I got them. I'll get back when I find the invoices :)

Same! I found yours, but for some reason wanted something smaller - https://www.aussiearcade.com/forum/game ... ller-board

There are lots of SP3T and DP3T switches on eBay. I use ebay and sometimes aliexpress a lot for things like that as it's cheaper.

Even though I have a PCB for this PC-Engine's controller, I still need to cannibal the lead of the PC-Engine's gamepad for its connector to the console.

Thanks you, I would see if I need that PCB.

Sellers from Aliexpress either ship very slow or selling parts that are not working. I won't buy anything from them other than cardboards.
As for the switches, I have bought from an online electronic store, called Digi-Key.
