Hey all
So, when i run any HDMI source through my 4x4 HDMI 1.3 matrix, output to my XCapture-1, and then display using VideoKeeper2, the image is fine.
Doing the same but outputting to OBS or XSplit leads to some really terrible issues i haven't been able to solve.
On OBS, we see:
- Green screen (switching inputs on the matrix or disabling and re-enabling the XCapture-1 gets past this most times, but leads to the frozen frame strobe)
- Black screen (the above fix works for this too, but again leads to frozen frame strobe)
- a "frozen" frame from the video of whatever i had going the moment signal got through, rapidly flashing on and off, almost as if a strobe effect was being applied. And i do mean frozen. any change i do on the game doesn't get reflected in the preview in OBS.
i need a x4 matrix for my setup and i'd rather not go out and purchase another piece of hardware unless i know for sure it will work. I've captured and recorded video using VideoKeeper in the past, but i have need for some features that OBS has.
So far, my only solution has been to run VideoKeeper and then using OBS with a window as a source to get the video from Video Keeper over OBS, but this really isn't a good long term solution in my eyes.
Since videoKeeper functions in this setup just fine, and since OBS only chokes on this when the video signal is passed through the matrix, i could only think that this has something to do with how OBS is interpreting the signal from the XCapture-1 when the actual source is going through the matrix and that maybe this is only a settings issue. At lease i thought that way until i tried XSplit and noticed similar issues.
Now i'm wondering if the problem really is the matrix, or the XCapture-1 itself, and that videokeeper is just set up in such a way that it handles the signal okay, but OBS and XSplit can't.
So, i'm now looking for any help at all, including recommendations for a replacement x4 HDMI matrix that works with the XCapture-1 and OBS.
i've played with driver settings in the XCapture-1 source within OBS but got nowhere.
Matrix Input/Sources i'll be using:
Xbox One X
Wii U
PS4
Xbox 360
Sega Saturn connected through an XRGB-Mini
Matrix Outputs:
Panasonic Plasma
XCapture-1 to an HP Laptop running Windows 10
Viewsonic Monitor
The matrix is pretty generic (CMLUX-44S), and it is HDMI 1.3 so it is older, but fully functional from what i can tell. I've tried different input and output ports.
Here is a video of the strobe thing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLln02i3i54
Another video this time showing VideoKeeper working as well as OBS not working: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yECfpSAG3pc
Here is the log file: https://obsproject.com/logs/y4GHWtKT2A2K7uQU
can anyone help me out?
thanks

Hey bud, it's Mike L (helped ya verify some Saturn ODE stuff a while back), hope all's swell. The first thing that popped into my mind was potentially trying out some different firmwares... I know this and the Startech unit can be quite picky in that respect. Given any of those a whirl? Definitely suggest setting a system restore point before doing so, howeverA Murder Of Crows wrote:Hey all

Re: HELP!! HDMI Matrix to XCapture-1 to OBS/XSplit issues
hey man
i'm not sure what you mean by using different firmware. The XCapture-1 hasn't had any driver updates in quite a while, and i haven't seen any firmware stuff for it. The laptops i'm using are both having the same issues, but mine is fully updated so if the idea is to push updates to my system.
the main point though is that the xcapture-1 works with both laptops so long as the source isn't coming direct. Going through the matrix causes the problems, and so at this point i'm looking at recommendations for a replacement HDMI Matrix, unless someone has hands on experience with the problems i'm having and knows a direct solution.
as you know, i'm fairly technical so i've done a fair amount of troubleshooting on this and am looking for the next level.
thanks for the suggestions

I've got some old ones from 2014 that forum user FinalBaton swears by, as well as those "Thrillness" drivers (which are old Micomsoft ones you may already have). I know a HDMI splitter that MAY be helpful, but not a matrix. But, perhaps if you stick it in the chain somewhere it could be helpful. It's been very cooperative with me, it's the one linked in the thread on here about HDMI gear suggested for use with the OSSC.
Gimme a shout if you want to take a whirl at those drivers, and I can e-mail them to ya or something
