have any gaming projects for this summer?
I just finished my 2nd year of college and my summer is just beginning...
I plan on finally getting around to playing and beating Star Control II for the 3DO summer. I'll also continue working on perfecting Ikaruga...

Zero Gunner II 1 loop clear, i still can't do it. doesn't help that now that i have vga i refuse to play the 3d games on my tv, thusly setting up for the dreamcast is a fucking bear. move speakers, swap monitor power cables, blah blah blah.
clear DJmax easy mode. stage 4 still tears me apart...
everything else is pretty casual right now. plod through Guitar Hero hard and expert, pick up Imperishable Night again, etc...

Get back into PCE Duo gaming for shmup goodness...
For JP,jp wrote:Work on a PC-FX collection.
Thats about it. I'm REALLY itching to get back into the PC-Engine Duo now though...
Get back into PCE Duo gaming for shmup goodness abounds on that platform...it's nice to come back to a cool retro gaming console that has one of largest shmup games collection period. ^_~
Here's looking forward to MindRec's upcoming Xymati Super CD-Rom2 shmup game...
Challenge you to a classic shmup game of Gate of Thunder or Lords of Thunder/Winds of Thunder? Beat me and dinner's on me. You up for it? ^_~

My gaming related projects currently look like this:
1) Finish restoring a Road Kings pinball machine
2) Service+clean up a Fathom pinball machine
3) Finish the restoration of Moon Patrol (lighting is dead)
4) Finish the restoration of Power Drift (monitor is dead)

It's quite nice to play all those above pinball/arcade video games listed at the upcoming 2006 California Extreme show. Check out the website for further details: http://www.caextreme.orgbloodflowers wrote:My gaming related projects currently look like this:

I have fond memories of playing all four above listed games at local arcades back in the mid 1980's. Going to a California Extreme show, odds are that you'll find a majority of the classic pinball and/or arcade video games that you grew up with including some rare prototype arcade + pinball machines that were never released for the arcades. ^_~
Try playing a rare gaming session of the 1983 Cinematronics' color vector-based arcade game "Cosmic Chasm" that was based on the 1982 game for the Vectrex. It was shown for one day only at the 2004 & 2005 CAX show. It was indeed a rare treat to learn about it's exsistence so many years later. ^_~

I'm wondering if I hate myself enough to finally endure the whole of Final Fantasy VIII.

And a shameless plug for the stuff I'm selling on eBay, if you're into that sort of thing.

Play lots and lots of Triple Triad, it makes it more bearable.judesalmon wrote:I'm wondering if I hate myself enough to finally endure the whole of Final Fantasy VIII.

As for my own gaming plans, I suspect I'll probably go from my present state of scrambling for time to play anything in between classes to scrambling for time to play anything in between jobs, as I work to pay off that freakin' car.

The first time I played it I got to the end of the third disc before I realised I really hadn't enjoyed any of it.BulletMagnet wrote:Play lots and lots of Triple Triad, it makes it more bearable.judesalmon wrote:I'm wondering if I hate myself enough to finally endure the whole of Final Fantasy VIII.Though in truth I didn't dislike the game all that much, though the plot and characters were awful.

Actually, I'm done with college at least for a while. I'm going to see what I can get w/ my Associates first. If I wanted to go on I'd have to leave the city and probably go 200+ miles away.seattlexc wrote:I'm in the same position as the first poster. Half way done with college and got a summer to waste. I'm planning on getting a PS2 and maybe Espgaluda or Ibara. My PS1 is getting the job done now, but I think its time to upgrade to the PS2.

hmm summer gaming plans, none yet but
Heres my after exam to buy list. Ico, shadow of the colossus, dragon quest 8, dmc 3 and the silent hill box set.
Good bet it'll be a summer devoted to DQ8, still have to beat FFx-2 and FF7. no shmup plans i'm afraid.
I'd love to beat space channel 5 part 2 on the DC, playing it alot at weekends fukkin love up down left right chu chu hey chu! Can't beat second boss white bulb yet, so close. I suck at those type of games though.
I have 4 months to kill, so It'll be working, working out and rpgs for me.

As far as shooters go, I plan on sucking as bad as I usually do. I finally bit the bullet and bought R-Types online, so I can get my ass handed to me a slight bit more than in the usual shmup.
But I'm focusing more on Resident Evil 4. As soon as I beat it, I'll be swapping my PS2 for my brother's Gamecube so I can finally play through both Metroid Prime games. Oh, and Ikaruga too, when I'm feeling especially masochistic.

a good shmup or any game? Pretty much any girl loves puzzle games... that would be a good start. My ex-girlfriend loved playing Pokemon Puzzle League on the 64... Pikachu is always a safe bet my friend.sjewkestheloon wrote:also i'm moving in with my girlfriend on saturday so i'm looking for a good co-op game to play with her.

to be honest we're not fussed either way. she's actually pretty good at games and independantly has owned an x box and now has a cube. i'm taking my ps2 over but we'd like somehting with a good lengthy story to play through. might convince her to play through symphonia as a two player as i haven't played that yet.
but yeah any suggestions of good puzzle stuff etc would be welcome. i'm tempted to pick up a few more multiplayer ds games too as we both have one.

I can't see gaming as a "project." I'll just play and try to improve at whatever shmup I feel like playing at the moment. I don't fixate on a particular game for too long. I keep sort of a rotation going.
I guess it's different for you school kids who get the summer off. I still have to work like always.

Re: Get back into PCE Duo gaming for shmup goodness...
The INSTANT I have Zenki (which is the last PC-FX game I plan to buy out of... 10 or so), I will begin looking for a PC-Engine Duo RX and Gate of Thunder/Lords of Thunder/Rayxanber III/Sapphire/Star Parodier/Star Soldier series/Spriggan games. When that day comes, I will totally take you up on that offer, since I looooooooved Lords of Thunder on the Sega CD when I was younger.PC Engine Fan X! wrote:For JP,jp wrote:Work on a PC-FX collection.
