Audio authority 9A60 and Gbs 8200 issue
Audio authority 9A60 and Gbs 8200 issue
Hi, new here. I had a question about using a stock GBS 8200 through the Audio authority 9A60 into CRT Trinitron. I tried that setup but received a distorted picture? I read that the 9A60 uses RGBhv and unsure if the GBS-8200 outputs rgbs or rgbhv? Would anyone know the solution to my dilemma ? Thanks.

If it works at all, it outputs RGBHV.
Check with your source disconnected. The scaler always manages to output its menu.

I can see the menu but it is distorted. The picture multiplied into 3 screens at once and are very small?

What is the "Audio authority 9A60" supposed to do?
Is it a downscaler that allows higher resolutions to display on a CRT?

No it's purely a transcoder that puts out what it takes in. I have one and the inverse model and have used both.rama wrote:What is the "Audio authority 9A60" supposed to do?

Fun fact, according to a CRT Discord folk, apparently they 9A60 only outputs in the digital YPbPr colorspace (I think that one's rec 709, analog is 603? I'm gonna Google it after this post and see if I won 'guess the numbers'). Good information to have, I guess! I wonder how many people have ever noticed that solely with the naked eye
EDIT: AH, 601! So close!

Is it a consumer 15khz CRT? If that's the case I don't think a stock GBS will put out a 15khz signal afaik without the GBS Control mod.

Yeah, I'm almost positive it doesn't... that's what the GBS-8100 is for (but would need to be fed 31kHz signals, highly doubt it does 15kHz passthrough). Speaking of which, I wonder if the RGB out on those units is limited only to 15kHz RGBHV? I know very little about them, as it's pretty universally suggested not to bother with the thingsGunstar wrote:Is it a consumer 15khz CRT? Right, the CRT requires 15kHz. A downscaler (to 240p/480i) is necessary to get a picture.

rama, have you played with the 8100 at all? I suppose there is not much point, as your work on the 8200 covers so many basesrama wrote:Right, the CRT requires 15kHz. A downscaler (to 240p/480i) is necessary to get a picture.

No, never even seen one. I imagine they're not as well priced or available?

You have a link for the discord? I'm curious what source those guys found that information from. I use a 9A60, and it looks good but when I watch youtube through it, some colors seem more bright than they should, but it's hard to tell if that's just my TV.kitty666cats wrote:Fun fact, according to a CRT Discord folk, apparently they 9A60 only outputs in the digital YPbPr colorspace (I think that one's rec 709, analog is 603? It can also take RGBS, though Csync has to be on the Vsync pin. I had to rewire a VGA cable to get that to work.tallgeese wrote: I read that the 9A60 uses RGBhv .

Go over to the "crtgaming" sub-Reddit, and check out the sidebar on the right (assuming you're viewing on a web browser and not a phone). May have to scroll down a little ways, but you'll find itBazookaBen wrote:You have a link for the discord? I'm curious what source those guys found that information from.
