Gaming in Trinidad

Post by postman »

I work in a small game store, and I was talking to a woman who came in and bought a few ps2 games. She mentioned that import gaming was pretty expensive, and games cost $600 bucks! So I told her that I would import ps2 games every now and then, and they ranged from 65-80 after shipping and all........

She told me that she was from Trinidad, and after the exchange rate on the dollar, games over there cost about $600 US dollars each. This was crazy (if true!) She bought games here in the US for a family member and then shipped them over to save money. But can anyone confirm this? Does gaming in less developed countries cost an arm and a leg? This is worse than the Neo Geo pricing............

Not sure about what game prices are like there, but when I was in St. Thomas last year I stopped into a small game store in Charlotte Amalie, and for the most part the prices didn't seem too outlandish (a little higher than normal, which could be expected due to shipping costs.) Of course, St. Thomas is also a US territory and is close to Puerto Rico, so I can't imagine things being horribly expensive.

Even so, I did a currency conversion (http://www.xe.com) to find out the exchange rate, and a Trinidad and Tobago dollar (TTD) is equivalent to about $0.16USD, and $600TTD would translate to about $95.16USD. That sounds more likely than $600USD, which would be something on the order of $3,783TTD.
