what PS2 shmups do you highly recommend?
I have a Japanese PS1 and a US PS2 - Both are near death and extremely crappy. I'm going to buy a premodded Slim PS2 and have everything all in one. I'm wondering what PS2 shmups to get that I've missed out on?
I have:
R-Type Final (US)
Gradius V (US)
I think that's it as far as the PS2 goes that I have.
I'm sure most will recommend all the Cave games... anything else?

Gunbird twinpack
strikers 1945 twin pack
steel dragon/double sheinryu pack contains sat ver and explosion
XII stag optional shmup, few fans here
silpheed lost planet, again optional not highly regarded.
Yeah, cave games are good if your a cave fan gameplay. quite a few to choose. Too many bullets for me sometimes. thinks there 6 or more.

I probably should just list what I own for PS1 already:
Zanac X Zanac
Twinbee Yahoo! Deluxe Pack
DoDonPachi
Gunbird (Saturn)
Einhander
Salamander (MSX)
Some of the other recommendations I own on other systems already. Was the Strikers 1945 Duel Pack... is that a good port or are there flaws?
I'm not a real fan of the Gradius games so I planned on skipping Gradius Giaden.

IIRC this one doesn't work properly when played on a PS2, so you might want to keep that in mind...professor ganson wrote:Toaplan Shooting v. 1 (for Twin Cobra)
In addition to the stuff already mentioned, I might recommend the Psyvariars, the Taito Memories/Legends packs, and Twinkle Star Sprites: La Petite Princesse (especially if you don't already own the original on the DC or Saturn, as it plays much the same).

Homura and Espgaluda are the two big ones to me.
Feedback will set you free.

Come to Malaysia. Everyone's selling them (in addition to the USD$1 PS2 high quality disc'd games that you can exchange for other copies if they don't work) for USD$200 right now. If you get to know the shopowners, they'd even give you a free personal guarantee for a month or two on the obviously un-warrantied (opening the PS2 to insert a modchip voids the warranty) PS2 you bought.tonyjh wrote:Speaking of premodded ps2 systems, anyone have a recommendation on where to get one? I'd like to play some Japanese shmups.
