tell me about ESPgaluda
Dear people of shmups forum,
I just got myself a PS2, picked up Ibara and ESPgaluda along with it. Played Ibara, and I felt cheated (the thing was like an exact Battle Garegga/Bakraid rip, only with weirdly dressed goth girls as bosses, I didn't like Garegga/Bakraid to start with). Played ESPgaluda, and my brain nearly EXPLODED with its awesomeness.
Everything that ESPgaluda offered were new and exciting. I loved the character art, I liked the presentation and gameplay. In fact, the game itself is so great, that I find myself having an urge to know moar about the possible wonderful storyline of the game.
- What's this whole 'kakusei' thing about? From my command of Chinese, the kanji translates to something like 'holy awakening' (at first, I thought each of the characters have a natural partner that replaces him/her in kakusei mode, until I visited cave's site just now and realised... 'OMG the characters have a natural sex change after kakusei?!?! O_O').
- What about the characters' story? Whom did the girl character killed in the intro?
- In kakusei mode, the character's shots powers up and you get higher scores, with enemy bullets flying faster as tradeoff, right? Also, do I get a penalty or something if I get shot, and thus automatically used the bomb in kakusei mode (I think the mode's kinda cheap, since one gets score bonus, ?
- What are those gold ingot thingies for, those that you collect from enemy bullets during kakusei mode?
- Is there any way to gather more emeralds to prolong the kakusei mode's time?
- How do I recharge the bomb meter? I could barely notice the thin bar on the bottom.

Cigs is right, that's a bit silly, no offense. I recommend checking out the strategy forum threads for both games, that should answer a good deal of your questions about the gameplay [edit - GaijinPunch=sneaky bastard]. Read up about the different Raizing games too...cigsthecat wrote:Yeah, Garegga and Bakraid play exactly the same.infested_ysy wrote:Dear people of shmups forum,

I just disliked the presentation/gameplay/style of both Garegga/Bakraid. I didn't played them alot compared to other shooters I like to notice any differences in strategy and whatnot :(.

The music on the later stages is absolutely top tier trance/techno.
If it had been released in Britain in the early 90s, at the height of the rave culture, it would have been a sensation!
I always seem to die in this game without ever having used my little 'safety bubble'
Although now that I've begun playing STGs on a stick, using a Virtua Fighter style layout (pressing the bomb button with my thumb, as the reflex is there for hitting guard quickly on VF) this may change :S

It's a bit too cheesy for that, even in the early 90's. Not enough base in the percussion. If you want stuff like that that was in the clubs, anything by Ferry Corsten is very ESPGaluda-ish. There's a track called Angel on the Hooj Choons label from a while ago that reminds me of the stage 3 track.WW3 wrote:The music on the later stages is absolutely top tier trance/techno.

Also, I will die of anticipation soon. Probably sometime tomorrow.

I've already bought a NTSC-J PS2.
It's just taking forever to get here!
I believe I'd have to order the modchip, so I'd only be pining for two deliveries instead of just one.
Also, the last time I messed with solder, I screwed up the battery cable for my truck, made a mess, and burned my fingers. Electrical tape saved the day... can it be used in lieu of solder in modchip installations?
Most of my problem will go away the day I see the PS2's status change from "Preparing order" to "order shipped".

The Superplay DVD is region 2. You'll have to flash your DVD-ROM's region firmware to play it (unless there's some software player I don't know about that bypasses the region code).
Personally I used DVD Decrypter to rip an image to my harddrive and played it from there.
edit: I forgot to add, that electrical tape almost definitely will not work with PS2 mods, since the soldering requires extremely high precision. If the wire on your tape moves so much as half a millimitre, you'll either break the connection or short out something else.

Lange, too. GO GO SUPER MAGICAL "formulaic 1998-1999 UK/euro mainstream trance scene"!!GaijinPunch wrote:It's a bit too cheesy for that, even in the early 90's. Not enough base in the percussion. AFAIK, VLC works with all DVDs out of the box including region-2. You don't even have to flash your DVD-Rom either. So if your DVD-Rom is set to region-1 you can still play region-2 DVDs thru VLC. Even supports menus too, although the menu system isn't the best. There still a few glitches with that.iatneH wrote:The Superplay DVD is region 2. VLC uses open source and legal-in-all-countries-that-arn't-stupid-enough-to-vote-in-the-DMCA DVD decompression routines. It's developed and hosted in France.
Technically speaking, it's illegal for use in the US and Canada. Everyone else who has a sensible government may use it freely without the worry of persecution for choosing to watch DVDs encoded in a different country.
And after all... what worse crime is there than that? Rape? Murder? These are meaningless. People wanting to watch DVDs from another country??? Release the hounds!

Bakraid is NOTHING liek GAregga.
It actually lets you play for survival.
There are 2 ways to play it.
1) go for normal medalling, and ignore the cain multiplier. THis will keep rank down, and get you a respectable score.
2) point milk with the chaining mechanic. THIs required much bombing and suiciding. The differnce point milking makes borders on absurdity. but it's very difficult to pull it off.
I like it better because you can ignore the point milking and just play, and acutally single life clear the thing without worryng about rank managemment.
It also doesn't suffer from the initial rank boost issue that batrider has. ANd it doesn't beat you over the head with a stick until you play it the right wa,y, unlike Garegga.

Any one could shad some light on how the Seireiseki (Green Gems) deduction is calculated when you distory enemy in Kakusei mode ?
Is it depends on how many bullets you have cancelled in to Gold ?
Or is it depends on the size/type of enemy you distoryed ?
Is the the type of shoot you are using (Normal Shoot / Focus Shoot) got anything to do with the amount deducted?

Size/type of enemy. I believe it is listed in the strategy thread. If you're chaining, you'll want to kill the smaller enemies first, then the big ones. There's a part on stage 1 where you can kill a few little tanks (which only take off 5 gems I believe) and then a bigger tank, which will take a good 15 or so gems. If you only have 12 gems, you can chain them all if it's in the right order.
12 - 5 = 7; 7 - 5 = 2; 2 - 15 = 0.
If you try the big tank first. 12 - 15 = 0; you can't get the zako afterwards.

I finally know why my green gems run out so fast...
I will try figure out the amount of gems deducted for each kind of enemy.
