Since there doesn't appear to be one of these yet, I'll go ahead and start one. What do people here think we're going to see?

Here's a couple of things I think we'll see:

- Sony will have to tone down their rhetoric a bit on the PS3 until they have the hardware to back it up (and I'd expect them to have a lot more to show than they will if they plan to release the PS3 this year.) Expect them to hype up the PSP disproportionately to divert attention. Nonetheless, by doing so they should be able to give the PSP a boost.

-Nintendo is coming into E3 with astronomical expectations all over the place, and I'm not entirely sure they'll be able to completely live up to them, but their showing will be impressive nonetheless. If they can bring 2 or 3 upcoming AAA titles to the show, it might be just what they need to move systems in the US and Euro markets, and relegate the PSP to permanent second-place status in the handheld market worldwide (and they already have one of them coming out next Monday in NSMB.) As for the Wii, the games and their unique features will be the primary emphasis. If we're lucky, we'll get a release date and a price as well, and it will be significantly below the PS3 and X360.

-Microsoft's showing (note: I have no inside information here, all of this is my speculation) will probably be somewhat low-key. They'll continue to emphasize online content, and we'll get a better idea of what to expect of XBLA in the near future (hopefully we'll hear more about coin-op games being ported to XBLA, since we've heard it will happen, but haven't heard much about specifics.) a Halo 3 trailer might show up, but it won't be anything earth-shattering.

The main thing we'll get from this is a much better idea of the direction the industry will be headed, but I suspect that most of us, being finicky niche gamers, probably aren't going to see a whole lot to be interested in.

I'm really looking forward to (finally) seeing Nintendo's 1st and 2nd party lineup for the Wii. Things I want to see (besides shmups since we know it's a given we will see few if any):

1.The new Mario Wii game (hoping it will be confirmed for launch and that it's more adventure/action oriented like 64 than Sunshine)
2.Metroid Dread for DS (assuming it's still not on the backburner)
3.Metroid Prime 3 (another game I hope will make the Wii launch)
4.Wipeout PS3
5.Some eye catching PSP games and confirmation of an 8 hour PSP battery :P

I would very much like hear about Kirby's Adventure (http://cube.ign.com/objects/716/716496.html) C'mon Hal, it's been a YEAR since we've seen or heard anything about this game, and it looks fantastic!

Other then that, like so many others, I can't wait to see some Wii game footage-both first party, and third party-and hear more about the retro downloads; cost, how many titles, etc. Also, someone on here said that the Wii will be able to run Turbo CD's; I'd really like to know if this is true, since I've only heard it from one source on here. It would be great if the Wii could run Sega CD's, but I'm not holding my breath for that! So basically, I want to see if the Wii is worth buying. If it's going to have poor first and third party support, like the Cube, then it may not be worth the money, as cheap as it will be, just for the retro downloads.

Atari has announced Battlezone for the PSP-I can't wait to see some media on that title! Hopefully it will be a good uipdate of that classic game, and not a butcher job.

Other then that, I'd love to see some more media of, and hear some more news about, the following titles:

PS2 Rouge Galaxy
PS2 Dawn of Mana
PS2 Final Fantasy Dirge of Cerberus
PS3 Resistance: Fall of Man
XBOX and PS2 Jaws Unleashed
XBOX and PS2 Snoopy vs. The Red Baron
XBOX 360 F.E.A.R.
XBOX 360 Halo 3
XBOX 360 and PS3 Sonic the Hedgehog
XBOX, PS2, and Cube Pac-Man World Rally
PS3 Turok

Any news on console ports of Virtua Cop 3, and House of the Dead IV; particuarly the former.

Count me in among those really excited to see the Wii's games and to hear how that controller actually works. I actually haven't been this excited over a new console since the DC came out with Soul Calibur.

I also just saw the shots of FF13, and while I'm not that excited about the PS3 with its more-of-the-same-but-with-better-graphics approach, hot damn - those graphics are quite something, eh? I'm also curious to see the new PS3 controller, to see if they ripped any ideas off of the Wii in the time from last E3 to now (probably not, but maybe?)

Anyone checking out the live sony e3 speech? I know you can check it out live for free at gamespot.com. It's actually pretty cool...they had this eyetoy card game demo where you actually put a card down and the camera recognizes it and produces a creature, which you can then move around and stuff. Not that I'm a fan of card games, but still pretty cool technology...

Then they went on to this whole micropayments thing that made me go zzzzzz...

After watching a couple of these demos, I get the feeling like they're trying to make beat 'em ups in the vein of Ninja Gaiden and Dnasty Warriors into the new system showoff genre. You know, like how shmups used to the thing to impress people on a system a while back, or 1-on-1 fighters were more recently. I suppose it makes sense, since it can show lots of characters and show tons of stuff on screen at the same time. Then again, racing games are up there as well...what do you think?

they showed Gran Turismo "HD" (sort of tech demo - Yamauchi says the next GT will look much better than this demo) , the card game ahnslaught mentioned, Genji 2 (press not too excited), Heavenly Swords (hot, they say)... all of which are said to be playable at E3.

F1 game for PS3 shown. And there's a gimmick - your PSP can act as a wing mirror, synchronised with what's going on in the main race. There's free software for that, which you upload to the PSP via USB.

Heavenly Sword action looked good, but if the whole game takes place in that arena, no thanks. All in all, the games don't look bad for launch, but I'm not working myself or anything. Nothing that would make me buy a launch system other than for the sole purpose of selling it for $500 profit.

So far, the game lineup (with the exception of the EyeToy card game) looks like more of the same. And the new Sonic game is shaping up to be yet another abomination...

And the price bomb got dropped. $499 for the base PS3, $599 for a bigger hard drive. That's getting awfully expensive, especially if MS drops the price of the 360 before release. And the Wii's probably going to be far cheaper than either.

...and history repeats itself again. Nintendo makes a revolution in controllers and everyone else copies it and get all the glory. They better take good advantage of being first in the game or they'll end up third again. Not that I care anyways. I've lost faith in Nintendo consoles.

Those prices are going to hurt Sony. Didn't they learn that not everyone will pay big bucks for their shit? We'll see in about 8 months.

I had heard a rumor that Sony was going to rip off the Wii. Ah well. It seems with the PS3 Sony has convienantly snagged ideas from Nintendo (PSP-PS3 connectivity, controller) and Microsoft (Xbox Live stuff).

Too rich for my blood, at least for now. I'll pick up a Wii and probably a 360 for the same price come November, and wait for the price to get down to reasonable levels to get a PS3.

Yeah, it was pretty obvious they would copy the Wii controller (Dual shock, anyone?), but since I didn't read anywhere about it, I thought I would put it in writing. I am curious as to how accurate that thing would be. Also, I'm willing to bet that games that use this will also have the traditional 2 stick control setup, thus giving people no reason to use the new control scheme.

Just my two cents, but, Price and Games are the only factors that determine what console I get. Right now I'm too busy with getting Jap PS2 games to really care at this point.

In Yurop that's 499 and 599 euros, respectively. You should be able to buy both a 360 and a Wii for the price of the more expensive model.

I wonder how long they'll be able to keep those prices. Sony has its work cut out. By the time their launch games come out MS will have 2nd generation titles, that will look much better. It's going to be fun to watch what happens.

Couple more things that have come out since then:

Sony official press release on controller:
os Angeles, May 8, 2006 – Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) today announced the new controller for PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3), which will become available as standard with the system. The new controller can be experienced at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) held from May 10 through 12, 2006, in Los Angeles, California.

The controller for PS3 has been created by refining and improving the world’s most popular PlayStation® controller that has shipped more than several hundred million units worldwide, while inheriting its basic concept and design. The controller for PS3 employs breakthrough technology of high-precision, highly sensitive six-axis sensing system that does not require any devices other than the controller itself for seamless interactive operation, thus eliminating additional settings to TVs. With this technology, ways to enjoy PS3 will be further enhanced by accessing PS3 through the network, while retaining the six-axis sensing capability.

In addition to the “3-posture-axis” of roll, pitch and yaw, “3-dimension acceleration information (X, Y, and Z)” can be detected in high-precision and in real-time. In addition to standard key input available in existing controllers, more natural and more intuitive play will become possible as if the controller has become part of your body.

Pursuant to the introduction of this new six-axis sensing system, the vibration feature that is currently available on DUALSHOCK® and DUALSHOCK®2 controllers for PlayStation and PlayStation®2, will be removed from the new PS3 controller as vibration itself interferes with information detected by the sensor.

The shape of L2/R2 buttons located on the top of the controller has also been enlarged with increased depth in stroke for more subtle control in games. At the same time, the tilting angle of the analog joy sticks has been slightly broadened to enable more delicate and more dynamic manipulation. Along with these improvements, precision of above information detection (L2/R2, analog joy stick) has been increased from 8 bit to 10 bit.

All input information will be immediately transferred to the PS3 system through the Bluetooth® wireless technology. By using a USB cable, the PS3 controller can be swapped seamlessly from wireless to wired, and can be charged automatically. The cable can be attached and detached at anytime.

By integrating all these features into one standard PlayStation controller, SCEI, together with content creators, expects to further expand and accelerate the world of next generation computer entertainment.
Sounds like the controller has less capabilities than the Wii; just tilt sensors and accelerometers as opposed to six true degrees of freedom.

Also, the 20Gb system will not include wi-fi, HDMI or even memory card support!! :?

Heavenly Sword and MGS4 were very nice. Tekken 6 was God-awful. And most of the other 'games' were blatantly target renders disguised as real-time footage. This is one of the worst E3 showings I can remember, and I am rather surprised at Sony -- and disappointed. I won't be buying a PS3 at launch now, that's for sure.

Oh, and don't forget about a possible price cut. Remember when Sony one-upped Sega with that "299 USD" line back in the 90's? History is about to repeat, but with different players.

WHO THE FUDGE HAS 500 dollars to blow on a console? With the stores bundling them and not selling the system alone, expect to find the cheapest package for 700 dollars. Sony has just shot itself in the foot again.
Don't hold grudges. GET EVEN.

I do.

But I think I'll buy Sapphire or Derisoba Deluxe or Darius Alpha or something on the PS3 launch day. Maybe a 2nd 360 if the rumored $100 price drop is true (I kid I kid! Well, about the 360).

Here's a link to Square Enix's press conference, that you can download from IGN:

http://media.ps3.ign.com/articles/705/7 ... ids_1.html

Anyone have a link to the Sony Press Conference video? I really wanna see what that controller looks like!

I don't know if the price will hurt Sony THAT much. After all, it's just less memory for the cheaper one, and weren't people paying over $1000.00 for 360's on Ebay?

I don't have that kind of money to blow either, but, IMO, people who really want a PS3 will shell out the money, no matter how much they'll gripe about it.
