Goddammit! How could I forget to post covers for the early releases by local heroes and metal gods VOÏVOD
A very tasteful mix of filthy, slimy punk aesthetic and man-machine populated post-apocalyptic future, as well as the horrors of war themes. What an awesome package, I tell ya
Punk rock as fuck. Interesting trivia : the cover for rrröööaaarrr was drawn on a pizza box
Here's some more totally rad early art by Michel "Away" Langevin
Pissed-off Cyborg head impaled on a spike is KVLT as fuck :
I really like the original inking of the Dimension Hatröss album on it's own :
(looks like a representation of BIL mowing through action games )
Some very classic logos :

BIL, I'm happy to see that you dig Voïvod.
I have a personnal policy when talking metal with someone : if you don't like Voïvod, don't even talk to me man
harsh, but c'est la vie
will add more Voïvod sketches to my post

Re: Favorite Album Covers Thread
That marvellous cover on the right "Shin Toku Maru"? compelled me to check this chap out.
Fucking hell! This guy was living it large, musically https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Svr8QxXqCI4
And I believe this is all from 1978?! Remarkable.

Re: Favorite Album Covers Thread
Haven't checked this thread for a while, and missed the fuckin' badass voivod album covers. Hell yeah! You described it just perfectly too. 'Nuff said.
EDIT: Actually Voivod always reminds me of Vektor (I actually saw them play a show together once!). Not quite as cool of art, but it does kind of remind me of shmup box art, so is worth posting.
Terminal Redux
Black Future also looks pretty sweet
I actually have a t-shirt of theirs that has some pretty R-Typey looking stuff on it, too, but I don't know how I can search for non album Vektor related art (especially since google thinks that I'm looking for vector art if I search for Vektor + art lol)

Just listening to it, much impressed by the Paul Thompson's drumming (reminds me of Van der Graaf Generator).
Now, I've never thought all that much of this here cover...
...but I've been reminiscing about the album's music lately, so I'm plugging it here. Wishing her coming back to recording studio [at least I sort of got to see a live performance of hers in the (bloody ace, actually) 2002 movie Dummy, one of my cheap DVD finds].
Never heard it...
...but I'm liking the picture.

Bizarrely (considering how little heard of it's ever been), I'd known about The Divine Comedy (album) years before associating her with any movie. Years before internet as well, so it took me a li'l while to even listen to it (being dad-aged already at that point, so, just in time to get the most out of it I suppose).

Is it painted by Michael himself? "Musicking"* visual artists tend to make pretty peculiar music indeed.
*) There seems to be no established English word for what I mean here, but lately did I hear a - supposedly - native English speaker express her need for one on the radio.
I struggle not to plug Masses into every post I make these days (listening to all the stuff feels like a part-time job, almost), but so do I struggle not to order this one a.s.a.p.
Posting up the cover might help me resist.
(Actually, covers of those things are great help when facing their abundance, in case everybody and their dog seem to have recorded a piece, oftentimes more than once each. These are not quickly-comparable by ear, unlike cover, which may at least give me a hunch that I might like it.)

I've heard musicking as well, it seems to be the accepted term. The main essay (or was it the first?) outlining the nuance between it and straight up performing/composing music, was using that term so I think it's fair game

No, it seems he saw something similar while visiting the artist's house, and requested he paint the album sleeve. Interesting story! Mr. Denture Dog's asshole is the back cover.Obiwanshinobi wrote:Is it painted by Michael himself? "Musicking"* visual artists tend to make pretty peculiar music indeed.

Guess I never put two and two together, but pretty sure the art is panels from Rapeman, which obviously makes sense. Can't find definitive info, but saw some Japanese twitters referencing the album and hashtagging Miyawaki Shintaro, the artist, and that definitely looks his style.

Eddie, you need to chill with this murdering people shit, that's Chris Chan's gig. Come visit sometime! We can talk about Daimakaimura and Ninja Spirit, like the ol' days. Re: Favorite Album Covers Thread
Really obscure punk/hardcore record. Definitely the only one in my collection I bought solely because of the genius cover. To be honest, the music isn't remarkable at all. What's interesting is, though, is that EH were part of the local scene The Notwist emerged from, and members of that band contributed to one (the best) song on this EH record.
