Konami's official statement is that the game will not be released in 2006 (they never said it was cancelled... just postponed). This isn't surprising when you consider that they are most likely putting as many resources as possible into MGS4.thefox74 wrote:Is this years E3 of any importance shmup-wise? We may hear something about Xyanide. A few weeks ago, I interviewed with EB Games, and the manager, who asked me tons of questions, claims that it's coming out on XBLA first.
At any rate, Playlogic will definately be at E3, as you can see on their website: http://www.playlogic.nl/games/?id=xyanide They've already got box art up for a European port, so I HOPE we get some news about this game.
There may also be some news about XBOX and PS2 Taito Legends 2; and those collections contain shmups.
I wonder if Konami will have any media regarding Gradius VI at E3, even though the game has been delayed.
Finally, perahps we'll hear once and for all the answer to whether or not the PS3 will be import-free with PS2 and PS1 games; that would certainly be of interest to the shmupping community.

MGS4 is handled by Kojima's studio. They have nothing to do with Gradius VI. I wonder, though. Since Treasure did V, it means Konami doesn't have enough/any people who know how to make shmups anymore. Otherwise they would have made it themselves.Kiken wrote:Konami's official statement is that the game will not be released in 2006 (they never said it was cancelled... just postponed). How the hell are they going to make VI?

Gotcha, thanks!
Oh, and it looks like Xyanide Resurrection is still in the works for the PSP:

No more mention of a GBA port; I think that's pretty much been canned.

Re: E3 and shmups
We probably are looking at more out-sourcing. Which also might be the reason why the game got postponed.icycalm wrote:I wonder, though. Since Treasure did V, it means Konami doesn't have enough/any people who know how to make shmups anymore. Otherwise they would have made it themselves.
