hooking up sources from extron cp ultra to OSSC
i just want to ask if this setup would work.
normally I use a PVM with an extron crosspoint ultra series with adsp™
the extron crosspoint has 8 outputs so i thought it would be cool to add an ossc to one of the outputs.
the ossc is located about 8m away from my extron. would it be fine to do the following from the extron:
Scart to BNC Breakout hooked up to Extron Output BNC slot -> 10 meter SCART cable -> OSSC?

It should be fine as long as it's shielded well enough to carry the signals for 10m and if it attenuates the sync line (470Ohm?); your Crosspoint, like most pro-AV gear, is going to output 5Vp-p TTL, and the OSSC needs 1Vp-p 75Ohm on its SCART input.
If the cable doesn't attenuate sync, you might be able to find an inline BNC attenuator. I know Retro-Access used to offer one for just that scenario, but I'm not able to find it anymore.

You can place the resistor on the sync line right inside the SCART head itself - there's plenty of room in there, and you'll be fine. I would definitely run the 10 meters via BNC cable first though, then attenuate with that resistor right at the end (so 10m BNC to BNC cable > short BNC to SCART adapter cable > OSSC).
I was routinely running 25' (~8 meters) BNC cables to 10+ BVM/PVM's with no visible signal loss, and similarly had a line going to an OSSC, Extron DSC 301 HD, XRGB-mini, etc. of the same length.

In theory that could very well be fine, but broadly speaking BNC cables are properly shielded and designed for longer lengths like this, and SCART cables are not on either regard so YMMV. If you go this route, you should have the resistor installed in the BNC->SCART adapter.

The RGC cable with the directional switch should do you well, and yeah maybe after that you'd want to find a female SCART to male SCART extension cable. Sorry that nobody responded to you earlier!


You could also couple these (would also need some BNC and RCA shit) if you wanna go poverty with it. Probably not worth it compared to the RGC cable if you don't already have enough spare stuff lying around

So, you have tested that setup with an Extron to an OSSC then and it syncs fine?

I no longer have an OSSC, but it worked fine with SCART to YPbPr transcoders. All that seems kind of excessive, using multiple adapters and adding resistors for sync...
The OSSC already has an input designed to handle TTL sync at 5Vp-p AV3, the VGA input. Just use 10-meter coax BNC cables and stick a BNC-to-VGA adapter on the end, they're like $6 at monoprice.
Downsides of using AV3 are a workaround is required for 480i (it's an option in the menu), and the LPF options are limited to 95MHz or off.

You mentioned this in another thread! What're the benefits of feeding TTL sync to AV3? In my setup, I use it to get LPF options that aren't otherwise available feeding RGBHV to the OSSC. I convert everything to RGBHV and distribute it in that format from the matrix switch. I have a sync converter box to get SoG for my monitor. In front of the consumer sets, I have an FC-14.
The 480i bug can be annoyjng, but it's only a problem with games that constantly change between 240p and 480i. For those games, I don't use the HDMI output from the OSSC, anyhow. That's CRT material. My CRT's all get an analog signal from the switch.
