Stuff you're looking forward to
Whatcha looking forward to in the near future? What gets you out of bed in the morning? Sure there's always something crappy that you have to do that you don't want to do, but you have to mix the bitter in with the sweet.
I'm pursuing a biomedical MS at a medical school, and well, I kinda don't really want to be doing it. It is pretty tough work, and is literally the same coursework that the PhD students have, except I have to pay tuition instead of getting paid and I get a less prestigious degree at the end of it all. The lack of intrinsic motivation isn't helping. I really don't look forward to whatever work is in front of me at the start of a new day.
That said, my courses for the semester are starting to end, and I'll have completed half of the program. So that's one thing to look forward to, a lot more free time and no pressure from coursework.
About a week ago I had ordered a broken dreamcast and a gdemu clone off of ebay, so I was really looking forward to that coming in the mail. I got it, fixed it up, it turned out great.
Right now I'm looking forward to getting an old Dell CRT computer monitor from a friend so I can plug my dreamcast in via VGA for that crisp 480p high res arcade monitor look. My friend should be dropping it off at my place in the coming days, and I ordered a pair of basic speakers and couplers for the VGA and 3.5mm plugs that should be here by the end of the week. Plus once this all happens, I'll be able to look forward to ordering and waiting for a lightgun to arrive so I can experience classic lightgun arcade games at home!
Yeah it is pretty trivial stuff I'm looking forward to, but hey it gets me going, gets me out of bed in the morning, and I suppose it doesn't really matter what gets you out of bed as long as you do.

In the long term, early retirement and videogames. Basically now but with more scores posted.
In the nearer future, a bunch of killer stuff (Sunset Riders, Guevara, Trigon, Gemini Wing) is getting Arcade Archives releases soon, and there's also the M2 Toaplan project with my two most wanted right off the bat, Hishouzame and Out Zone. That's my year's entertainments sorted out pretty much (my decade's, if including all the ACA/M2 stuff I already have).

Meeting my nephew once the alert is over. Last time we saw each other, he told me Super Monkey Ball I played "scares him"* and asked me to play something about killing dudes instead.
*) I guess he did not like the threat of falling from dizzying hights the game so convincingly evokes, coupled with desperate screams of falling monkeys. Chilling stuff.
Quite a few CDs I'm ordering now, for "these are the things" I actually get to play at home when resting. Just a reason to enjoy homecoming these days.

Reminds me of a fairly devout Jamaican colleague I sold my old Xbox game collection to. Asked him how he was getting on, he said he loved Orta and OutRun 2 but wasn't gonna touch DOOM 3 with a ten foot pole, "The duppies, man, scare me too bad!" I did always think that game's early bits had some convincingly blasphemous terror, before the narrative shat the bed.

Little as I played Doom 3 proper, I'd found some of its voice acting competently done, Legacy of Kain/Thief kind of terror. Boy, did my early impression cry "development hell" out loud, though.

I suppose just getting back to whatever constitutes normal..ish.
Getting up in the morning and going to work. Getting to go to the park to workout on days I need bars (dip bars) the park has that I don't have stashed in my apartment.
My workouts haven't really suffered per se, one of the advantages of progressive calisthenics, but I haven't been able to dip proper since I've lost access to both my job and the aforementioned parks. I picked up a 80lb vest too just for dips (I dip with 30lb) and then this happened.
On the plus side I've gone back to handstand push ups after a long hiatus (some muscle discomfort kept them on the sideline for few months) but I think I'm healed up enough. Discomfort gone, but I'm taking it slow.
Hanging out with people in person, I honestly fucking hate video chat but am tolerating it for the time being.

You're sure to be in a fine haze about now, but don't think too hard about all of this. Just go out and kill a few beasts. It's for your own good. You know, it's just what hunters do! You'll get used to it.
Re: Stuff you're looking forward to
There isn't much to really do currently for obvious reasons. Otakon just got canned which I'm sure surprised no one. I hadn't been there in 7 years because cons kinda bore me, but I just wanted to do something with my friends and go to the city again. This would be the year Umbrella Corp strikes, huh? That was about the only thing I was really looking forward to outside of game releases.....so now I'm just looking forward to tons of game releases. Mainly a bunch of ninja platformers but a lot of other stuff too.

There were some others, but I can't remember right now. I didn't keep a list like I usually do.

I misread the thread title as "Snuff you're looking forward to", and didn't bat an eyelid. After all, this is a shmups forum..

Re: Stuff you're looking forward to
gonna grab my work chair from the office tomorrow, it's a goodie and way better than the lo-tier scrub chair I have here. Having a great chair is very important for full time computer work. I also work standing up some (for that setup my keyboard is on top of a SNES box and Slayer tablature mags... ghetto af lol. and shmuppin' and kvlt af too!). In addition I take a short walk every morning and every afternoon, and also get up every 30 min or so to flip the record.drauch wrote:Not being a fat fuck and droppin' fuckin' loads. Did you take my advice I gave back then and invested in either a bidet or a sitz bath? to wash that fat ass of yours?

Too many people should necrobump the fitness thread instead of bitching in this one
Chomsky, Buckminster Fuller, Yunus and Glass would have played Battle Garegga, for sure.
Re: Stuff you're looking forward to
My real fitness thread lives in multiple .99 marble notebooks. For what its worth I'm always down to talk progressive calisthenics.

I learned how to play Mahjong in social isolation and now I have a big package of arcade girly mahjong games for Sega Saturn to look forward to in the mail.

Masturbating to cartoons. Duh.
The best part is they are mostly dirt cheap too. Similar to most Japanese releases of JRPGs.CIT wrote:I learned how to play Mahjong in social isolation and now I have a big package of arcade girly mahjong games for Sega Saturn to look forward to in the mail.

No bidet yet unfortunately. Thatpart of my butt doesn't hurt. This is the meaty portion of my cheeks. Bought a new chair though , still just suffering through that first week or so of working at home/fat fuckness.FinalBaton wrote:gonna grab my work chair from the office tomorrow, it's a goodie and way better than the lo-tier scrub chair I have here. Re: Stuff you're looking forward to
Classes end next wednesday! Well mostly anyways, if COVID-19 goes away during the summer I'll have to continue my lab internship. Also I have a committee meeting to prepare for in any case. But hey classes will be done!
And I'm investing in a mister FPGA setup! Just have to wait a week for the development board to get here along with a cooling fan pcb mount. Of course then I'll be looking forward to ordering the SD RAM board so I can play the bulk of the library, but in the meantime, FPGA turbografx 16 and 80s/early 90s arcade PCBs!

Yep, a definite plus in these times, where most old games cost you both kidneys. Been having tons of fun with Suchi Pai II already.Steamflogger Boss wrote:The best part is they are mostly dirt cheap too. Similar to most Japanese releases of JRPGs.

I’ve never played a Yakuza-verse game, but my impression is that they definitely contributed to mahjong gaining popularity in the West.

Re: Stuff you're looking forward to
Based on the comments on youtube tutorial videos, that seems to be the case. I mostly avoided doing it but I gave it an honest go this time mostly due to boredom. Money is also pretty tight early on and Mahjong is a good way to farm it.
