60hz vs 120hz?

Post by Jonpachi »

I have a little 32" tv that I use for shmups, and it's a 120hz Vizio. It does the trick, but it's starting to go out on me, so I'm looking for a replacement. I really want something with component in for older consoles, but I only tend to see TVs with 60hz that support that. Is 60hz going to affect gameplay?

No, as there are no older consoles that support more than 60 Hz.

I want to use it for PS4 and Switch as well. So even with something like the M2 Shottriggers games on PS4, I won't feel a difference between 60 and 120hz?

120hz is only intereseting if you connect your pc with a good graphics card.
i think new xbseries or ps5 might be able to output 120hz. but none of all the consoles right now output more than 60hz usually.

The current Xbox One (at least S and X models) can output 120Hz, although I'm not sure if there are any games that can actually render at 120fps.

You sure it's not a 3D LCD that has 120Hz only for 3D output? Normally TV's won't output anything over 60Hz.

I'm not sure. It's not a 3D tv, and in fact kind of a cheap brand (Vizio) but it does state 120hz on the box. No idea what that's used for.

It could very well have a 120Hz panel for motion interpolation. I really doubt you have that turned on though, given how much lag it produces. Have you heard of the "soap-opera effect"?
