That speech for anyone w/ a pulse was fucking next level gas lighting. In all honesty it was hard to watch. The sad thing is so few do any type of research (or even pay attention) these days plenty will swallow it like it was a huge load and they were trying to impress their new boyfriend.CIT wrote: Now he's withdrawn US funding from the WHO in attempt to mask his own failure in this crisis, thereby actively impeding the fight against the virus...

The WHO's relationship with China needs to be scrutinized for sure, but what do you think is the smart thing to do? Simply withdraw all funding, while the WHO plays a crucial role in coordinating coronavirus research, or telling them that the money will come with some strings attached and more oversight? Without the US involved at all now, it just invites China to exert even more influence over the WHO.headlesshobbs wrote:I thought it was stated WHO didn't do as much on reporting the pandemic before it became one and this was in part with China trying to silence doctors or anyone attempting to get the word out?
Also they blocked all discussion on Taiwan again in regards to this situation. $500 million from our pocket just to be working in China's favor isn't worth supporting.

Biden was a neoliberal Republican before he went senile. Now, he'll be a 1987 Ronald Reagan neoliberal Republican puppet.
Sending Trump out actually accomplishes nothing. The government won't change. You'll get more organised press gatherings and fewer offensive tweets. Although, Biden was never particularly well spoken, so you'll get "W" gaffes combined with nonsensical senile rambling.
Big deal.
..and we're not done yet!
You might also occasionally get people with actual relevant expertise appointed to vital government positions. Or Supreme Court justices who don't force people to go to the polls in person during a pandemic...assuming McConnell and company don't just outright steal seats again, with the we're only so cynical because we hate corruption in government sooooo much crowd sitting by in smiling, acquiescent silence. The government won't change. Expertise? That's a fraud.BulletMagnet wrote:..and we're not done yet!

If you don't physically live in country, you shouldn't be chiming in on American politics.CIT wrote:Mimimiorange808 wrote:Oh please.

Guess what dipshit, I’m an American citizen.orange808 wrote:If you don't physically live in country, you shouldn't be chiming in on American politics.
Um...last I checked "expertise", at least as it applies to the situation under discussion, was something along the lines of "possessing a level of relevant subject matter knowledge necessary to capably serve in a particular capacity". The stuff you rattled off is the same "screw those eggheads, what do they know" laundry list used to demonize "elites", "academics", "boomers", or whatever the current "only ever trust your gut (which is currently telling you to buy my new tell-all book)" buzzword might be.orange808 wrote:Expertise? You mean appointing people that were born rich, passed through all the right establishmets, checked all the boxes, and had all the right friends? Those people?
This just has a nice ring to it.CIT wrote: Guess what dipshit, I’m an American citizen.

Maybe I'm missing something in the argument, but if you can't at least acknowledge that BM has at least some beef here then you really are hopeless. The far end of the spectrum is DeVoss. She has no place in any public office due to ineptness and being shoulder deep up her own ass. Even my ultra conservative friends know that. Yet, here we are, with others of varying degrees - some only slightly less egregious. (Kushner comes to mind). That's not to say everyone (or anyone) in office is qualified, but they at least don't shit the mattress in the interview process.headlesshobbs wrote:This is politics we're talking about.
