A definitive website containg high-scores with vid-runs?

Post by ShotOfSelf »

After reading 'The Full Extent of the Jam' I googled 'DoDonPachi world record' and expected an official site to pop up listing high scores and video runs for every single STG but instead found a lot of old posts and outdated videos. I only go for survival when playing but for some reason I enjoy comparing God-tier, high-level runs in games that interest me.

Checked the high-score section here and there are no links to vids. Do many runs not have footage available? I assumed there would have to be recordings for proof but perhaps people don't want anyone to learn their techniques. Anyway, if there's a database let me know.

On a side note, checking the DoDonPachi thread I had to scroll through a bunch of scores to get to the actual #1 high score by Jaimers, 638,295,200 points using Type-C with laser. If this is a confirmed world record I highly recommend putting this at the top of the thread with the words WORLD RECORD next to it. What an amazing score, is anyone here currently trying to beat it? Haven't played DDP in years but I love DonPachi since it reminds me so much of Batsugun, one of my first experiences in the genre.

Getting back into shmups?

Score tracking is notoriously piecemeal even on this forum. If the OP doesn't update his/her thread regularly you can be manually scouring threads for pages like you have done with DoDonPachi. One decent resource is mark_msx's site, The Electric Underground; he has a top-scoring replay page for several games, though the list is mostly Cave and not exhaustive.

Jaimers' score isn't the world record (it might be the western one? not sure; I don't really play DDP). I think the record is well over 700m at this point. Those replays have not been recorded but have been verified at JHA, a japanese arcade.

Plasmo has a twitter feed where he regularly posts replays and world-records for all sorts of games, so I recommend checking that out as well (@Plasmo_stg)

They are not WRs, but a lot of high scoring replays end up on the youtube channel Replay Burners. Some of our own members have their runs on there.

Had to stop playing due to an arm injury at my prior job some years back. Currently competing with my brother to 1cc Ketsui and man is it hard. Very fair though with great music and awesome bullet patterns which is all I need to guarantee success. What are you playing at the moment?

Thanks so much for the resources, I'll save them and use them for sure. High scoring in games like Armed Police Batrider, Battle Garegga and DDP fascinate me and even though I don't use the knowledge to score high myself I love studying the strategy threads and watching these replays to see them in action. Once I get the clear in a game I move on so watching is the next best thing.

Over 700 million is insane, if there's an interview with that guy I hope the shmuplations dude translates it. The superplayer articles are my favorite and their advice is the best. "Just practice and don't dodge bullets, avoid them entirely." :D
