Please help me identify this shmup...
I'm not sure if anyone out there can help or not seeing as how my memories of the game are vauge at best. All I can say is that it was a horizontal arcade shooter from the late 80's that had you piloting a helicopter. Not much to go on I know. The funny thing is I think I remember the same game being released for the NES (or at least a game with a similar title) that featured some heavily altered gameplay. I could have sworn the home version was more exploration based (think the NES rev of Strider compared to its arcade counterpart.)
Can anyone help out here?
I know the info I provided is pretty weak but anything would be greatly appreciated.

Choplifter is definitely too old and I could have sworn it was something a little more obscure than Cobra Command. I went to KLOV and looked at some screen shots of the 88' version of Cobra Command and I do suppose that could be it though. There are only a few screen shots on the site so I guess giving it a quick run in MAME will confirm it. Not a lot of hori-shmups from that era (or any era for that matter) to choose from so I guess that could be it.
No mention of Cobra Command in the arcade section of the xenocide files?

I'm pretty sure that it is Cobra Command, because I bought the NES game back in the day after playing the coin-op only to discover that Data East added the usual "adventure/exploration" elements that were commonplace in NES ports like Double Dragon and Strider back then.Jon wrote:Choplifter is definitely too old and I could have sworn it was something a little more obscure than Cobra Command. There was a lot of exploration and some backtracking to find all the hostages in the NES version...loads of flying into and around underground structures. The arcade version in comparision is just a horizontally scrolling shooter, albeit loads of fun.
