Ultimate 64

Post by Elrinth »

Does anyone think about getting one of these? https://ultimate64.com/Ultimate-64-Elite

My C128 no longer outputs video so I'm thinking of getting one of these rather than trying to repair mine for tons of money and time. I already recapped it, no difference. There were two caps in the rf modulator box aswell, I could only replace one of those and the other I wait on getting here. I will try different video cable when I get one. Also will try bring it to my friend to see if it behaves differently with his PSU.

There's also this one for those who wanna keep the authentic hardware as some of the kinks and quirks still aren't simulated in the FPGA above: https://videogameperfection.com/2019/11 ... eo-coming/
If I could get my C128 working, I'd be interested in this. But might just not be worth the money to fix.

Of course, recapping a C64 or C128 is mostly useless except for one or two capacitors from one manufacturer that were used on very specific board revisions which have a tendency to leak.

No video signal at all or a black screen with still working sync signals? Does it change if you hold the Commodore key during powerup?

That is still a partial recreation of the VIC-II in an FPGA, I wonder how accurate it is.

Please don't just throw it away, even if it is not working and the cost of repair would be too high, it could still serve as a parts source to repair other broken systems.

If it's a PAL C128, it should be worth quite a bit after it's fixed.
We apologise for the inconvenience

It outputs some thin vertical red and green bars when I turn it on.

The component board still uses the VIC board's signals it seems. You put a board inbetween to "hijack" the data I guess.

I will try it again once I have that last capacitor which should go inside the RF modulator box.
Will try with my friends PSU and also will try different video cable.
