Looking For a PVM That Is Compatible With My Raiden Fighters
Looking For a PVM That Is Compatible With My Raiden Fighters
Hello,
I am looking for a PVM that will be compatible with my Raiden Fighters, Raiden Fighters Jet, and Viper Phase 1 PCB.
I am using an HAS supergun.
I read in a post from a few years ago that the PVM-20L5 is compatible with this board. Can anyone confirm this, or suggest a PVM that will be compatible with the whacky refresh rate?
Thanks!

Re: Looking For a PVM That Is Compatible With My Raiden Figh
Those seibu games use a refresh rate of around 50-55hz, and for CRT I don't see any reason why it wouldn't sync.
Looking here I see this monitor support PAL 50hz, so again I don't see why it wouldn't support these seibu games.

Re: Looking For a PVM That Is Compatible With My Raiden Figh
I'm in the same situation with mine. For whatever reason on my PVM-20M2U, the screen jitters like crazy with the Seibu SPI. Only rarely have I gotten it to sync, and even then the picture is smaller than usual. I had even recorded what it does for a similar conversation, not sure if OP's does the same: https://youtu.be/LFlNI5jUz14Dave_K. wrote:Those seibu games use a refresh rate of around 50-55hz, and for CRT I don't see any reason why it wouldn't sync.

I also have issues syncing Raiden I on this PVM. The screen will fade to black quickly, and will only stay working if the PVM is changed to component mode, with wrong colors of course. My OSSC in the same chain works perfectly with both situations, so it's an incompatibility between the PVM and these boards. Raiden 2/DX is just fine, so not sure what Seibu did.
Re: Looking For a PVM That Is Compatible With My Raiden Figh
Hello,
On both of my CRT TVs the image rolls similar to yours in that video.
I have a long thread on this subject on Arcade Projects, and from what I gather, these boards will not work on any consumer CRT. I believe the V refresh rate is 54hz which is why it rolls. The refresh on these is pretty whacky.
So before I put down the money for a not so great but highly compatible arcade monitor, I just wanted to see if anyone out there knows of a PVM or BVM, that can run both Raiden Fighters, which according to RGB Mike is 54Hz, and also games on CPS2 which is 60Hz or something close to it.
Does anyone out there actually play these games on the PVM-20L5?

I have a PVM-2054QM and it locks on to Viper Phase 1's signal properly if the game is already running when I turn on the monitor.
If the PVM is already on when I power on the PCB it cannot sync to the signal (and adjusting V HOLD makes no difference).

My PVM-14L2 has no problems with Viper Phase 1.

How are you hooking them up to the pvm? Via a HAS pr something similar the regenerates sync?

Even with regenerate of the HAS, it reduces rolling, but doesn't prevent it.Syntax wrote:How are you hooking them up to the pvm? Via a HAS pr something similar the regenerates sync?

Well I don't have a PVM yet, but I'm on a quest to get one, if I can find one that is for sure going to be compatible with my boards for my tate set up. SPI with Raiden Fighters Jet and Viper Phase 1, CPS2, and PGM.
Any help is ultra appreciated.
PVM-14L2 huh? You have no problems with SPI boards? Have you tried PGM or CPS2 as well?
Here's the million dollar question, does anybody know of any PVM dealers who really know their stuff, who are trust worthy? I'm serious about getting a sick monitor that's going to work with my boards.
Thank you for the responses guys. Seriously.

I can also confirm that Raiden Fighters (and Jet and Viper Phase 1 New ver., don't yet have Fighters 2) works fine on my 20L5 using a Timeharvest CBOX, except for the PVM thinking it's a PAL signal, so by default there will be huge black bars around the picture in comparison with actual PAL resolution. But no big deal to go in to the service menu and adjust the picture, unless you're also displaying actual PAL stuff and need to switch back constantly.

Amazing! Thank you sir!
Does anyone know if they made that same model but just a little bigger?

There's a PVM-20L2, yes.
But if you can find an L5, go for it, it supports 480p as well.

Re: Looking For a PVM That Is Compatible With My Raiden Figh
This is great info!
So the PVM-20L2 is the same unit just bigger? Okay...
I can't confirm that the L5 will be compatible. And I'm nervous about it cause a lot of people are saying their PVMs will not sync to the SPI board.
Where can I buy one of these fabled PVMs. I know there's people who fix and calibrate these things out there...I must find one such man.

Re: Looking For a PVM That Is Compatible With My Raiden Figh
Just for kicks, I was using a Matt Ross made supergun that was running a Seibu Kaihatsu SP1 motherboard setup with Viper Phase 1 U.S.A. booted up and had S-Video out coming from the supergun and fed into a S-Video to composite video adapter which was hooked up to a composite video to RF convertor box and with a 75 ohm cable running into a regular Tenika branded 19" NTSC CRT-based TV (whose sole video input was RF input and absolutely nothing else). The Tenika TV displayed the Viper Phase 1 U.S.A. game perfectly without any scrolling issues (nor any jitter was present either) whatsoever -- just a perfect 100% stable screen and get this, the Tenika TV could be tate'd on it side -- how cool was that?
This very same Tenika 19" CRT TV could display PAL TV signals as well since I could play the cool 32-in-1 PAL-based Atari game cartridge on my NTSC-based Atari 7800 ProSystem console without any problems as well (using the supplied RF switchbox that came with the 7800 console).

Thanks PC Engine Fan X!
I read that on another thread a few nights ago. So using RF would possibly get it to work. Doesn't that sacrifice a lot of video quality though?

There you go, a bit of tweaking to do though.jd213 wrote:I can also confirm that Raiden Fighters (and Jet and Viper Phase 1 New ver., don't yet have Fighters 2) works fine on my 20L5 using a Timeharvest CBOX, except for the PVM thinking it's a PAL signal, so by default there will be huge black bars around the picture in comparison with actual PAL resolution. Any links ?Jorel81 wrote:And I'm nervous about it cause a lot of people are saying their PVMs will not sync to the SPI board.
I've read some BVMs like the A series seem to have lots of issues in that regard, I only have first hand experience with the 2 PVMs I've had, the current one and a tiny 9" before that, which both worked with pretty much any 15Khz arcade signal I threw at them.

Re: Looking For a PVM That Is Compatible With My Raiden Figh
I'm assuming a Time Harvest CBOX is just a normal Supergun that isn't doing anything special to the video or sync signal?
So what I'm seeing in this thread is that if I hunt down a 20L5, it should be able to handle my SPI board, and my CPS2 board at the very least, with really no problem.
And we're all pretty sure that that's the case huh? Cause that's an expensive monitor, but fully worth it, if it works.

I'm not, but if you can tell me where to buy a 20L5 for a reasonable price I might try for you

Re: Looking For a PVM That Is Compatible With My Raiden Figh
I'm actually going to pick up a 20L5 this weekend on your advice, so I suppose I'll be able to tell you.
Re: Looking For a PVM That Is Compatible With My Raiden Figh
Yeah, it's a Supergun. I use its RCA RGB + composite video connectors instead of SCART to connect it to my PVM though, so instead of the direct sync signal, it's getting the composite video internally converted from RGB by the CBOX, which I assume is safer than connecting sync directly (not too worried about it either way as I'm sure the PVM is built to handle just about any sync signal). The CBOX also has component outs, which also work great on my PVM, and handles sync better in some cases (like with a JP TMNT board which shows some bowing at the top of the screen with RGB but partially goes away when using component).Jorel81 wrote:I'm assuming a Time Harvest CBOX is just a normal Supergun that isn't doing anything special to the video or sync signal?
If you use the SCART output on the CBOX, you might get direct sync from the arcade board, not sure.
