So I've been in a little King of Fighters kick lately thanks to Orochi Collection, and somehow, a little voice reminded me of my grossly underplayed King of Fighters 98 for the PS1. I popped it in the PS2, turned on fast loading, and most importantly made sure that a PS2 Saturn pad was plugged in. WOW, this game is more awesome than I remember it on the PS1! And now thanks to the godly Saturn pad, I can actually do special and super moves...something I could not do with the garbage Sony d-pad. I dare say that with this configuration, I prefer this over the DC version (KOF Dream Match 99), missing animation and all.
So have any of you had the same experience with a PS1 game on a PS2? Surely, many shooters have benefited from the Saturn pad, reduced loading and being able to view it through component (though that can make a lot of PS1 games appear pixelated/more pixelated). If so, please share.
PS1 games that benefit from PS2 compatibilty...

Polygon smoothing (see PS1 settings menu at PS2 system menu). A much criticised option, but actually it makes R-Type Delta look really, really nice.

Do you mean while a PS1 game is loaded? I don't think you can. But you can set the PS1 driver the way you like and then reset the PS2, the console will retain your settings (until you switch it off). Quite helpful for people with mod chips that require to press certain button combinations during startup in order to boot PS1 games.
