Need Help with BVM 20F1E and Adapter Cards

Post by St4rwalker »

Hi, i have a BVM 20F1E CRT and 1x BKM-20D, 1x BKM-25P installed on the rear, also the "standard" Analog inputs
with sync. I studied the manual at least twice, read also the manual for all possible adapters! I dont get why i cant
run any of my NTSC consoles over RGB only PAL is working. I tested SNES Famicon NTSC with RGB Scart to BNC, not
gonna happen. Sega Saturn switchless modded, green for Europe is working (very bright though, i think because no 75 ohm
terminators installed). Because the manual said :

https://www.smecc.org/kkat-iptv/bvm20f1 ... 5B1%5D.pdf

on page 7: BKM-20D and BKM-25P => RGB 525/625 Independent input possible !! 525 is PAL 625 stands for NTSC

My theory is: I need the BKM-21D for example, because it can handle composite NTSC.
And since it handles NTSC composite, it generally transfer the ABILITY TO ENCODE NTSC to all possible connection types (s-video, component, etc.)

Someone shed some light on me, please.

Also, is 180€ a reasonable price for the BKM-21D ?

I really appreciate your answers! Thank you !

as far as I was aware, RGB signals were not encoded to a specific standard (PAL/NTSC)
In my experience, any TV that could not handle an NTSC composite signal (shows black and white) always worked fine after I switched to an RGB cable.

I have a feeling something else might be going on.

Maybe composite is being sent through your RGB cable, and you just don't realise it?

For RGB and component you don't need a decoder to be present. For example: if you removed both the 20D and the 25P boards, you're still able to display RGsB, RGBs and YUV through the stock board - both in "PAL" and "NTSC" formats (288p/576i and 240p/480i).

Decoders present on one board will usually work on the other installed boards as well - but I never actually tried using the Y/C inputs on a PAL-only board using the NTSC decoder from another board.

This said: since all RGB consoles are supposed to work on your monitor, it's more likely an issue with your settings.

I would always recommend to try a YUV source first, since this rules out your Scart to BNC adapter and it automatically defaults to internal sync, so sync problems are out of the question as well. Do you have a PS2 on hand to try that ?

that's actually ok, since you can transmit YUY throught the scart cable as well.

Set the PS2 to YUV and only connect the three BNC cables to the monitor, but not the sync cable. Make sure to set the input to Component AND to internal sync (the later should be set automaticall but you can still check).

Take it from there.

If this works, try RGB from the PS2 next. Set the PS2 to RGB, connect the 4th BNC plug to the monitor, set the input to RGB and to external sync.

Let us know how it goes

ok, all consoles work, NTSC and PAL on the 6th adapter analog input.

Problem though, i discovered channel 093 is not all uniform purish white, slighty(!) bluish areas.
Please tell me this is perfectly normal for this beast and totally ok since you will not notice it while gaming :(
