I find it hilarious/disturbing that they are describing people that believe Mitchell's recording was MAME as "skeptics" when there is pretty god damn clear and obvious proof on the table, supplied by the guy himself. What's surprising me more is that it took people so long to notice it, as people have been questioning his stuff since the release of that darn movie.

For years, ever since The King of Cock actually, I assumed the TG scene was just a bunch of eccentric older dudes who love their games. Where I see myself in a couple decades' time, tbh (edit: "where I see myself" = "eccentric older dude who loves his games," not "hanging around TG"). Like many here I thought their Giga Wing 2 malarkey was a laugh riot - but then I thought, maybe they're just not from our niche of arcade gaming? I don't know half of the games they celebrate.

This all looks rather darker and entirely scurrilous, sadly. Seems the holy figurehead is everything, and all detractors must be destroyed, by legal channels or otherwise. I didn't know they took themselves or "the brand" that seriously. It's just naked corporatism.

Oh well. First Ron Jeremy Dragster dude goes down babbling about "the human factor," now crazy necktie hotsauce man's crew is blathering on about "having fun being the really important thing, doods!" When those platitudes come out you know something's rotten. Marvelous morbid entertainment for sure. Image

Reading through the investigation thread, and the posts of ex referees and staff, it's pretty dark stuff indeed.

Looks like there's a bunch of cheaters(and their partners in crime) at TG(current or ex-higher ups), and they have been covering each other. And paid other (ex)staffers to shut them up  And also have sabotaged these people's business ventures in the past, and even have threatened them with lawsuits to intimidate them and dissuade them from ever daring exposing the truth. What a bunch of miserable people, lol

Falsificareers, indeed. I always felt something wasn't quite right with these seemingly unquestionable, self-appointed record keepers with zero transparency.

It's frustrating how Twin Galaxies got all this media hype and was even the official high score of Guinness "World" Records (also a joke) at one point. I remember Activision promoting Todd Rogers and him being a regular poster at Atari Age and it wasn't until more recently that he was revealed as a fraud, despite him constantly posting suspicious scores. I always thought it was odd that TG only used video tape when it's also susceptible to editing.

It's hilarious that people go through this insane effort for such a low ranking score. Any other person and they'd just play another game and set a new score.
But hey, there's publicity to be made.

Also, wth is a "5 girder transition screen"?

Something to do with the way the game playfield is drawn before the level starts, I'm pretty sure. There's a difference in the way it's drawn on MAME and real hardware, at least in earlier versions of MAME.

The TG thread is now hilarious, it almost instantly devolved into speculation over who Billy would sue, and on what shaky grounds ..

Yeah, but that's just a question of which direction the scanlines move. I'm confused by these TG-terms and have no idea what they mean.

No, if you load up both arcade pcb and earlier MAME on a 15 kHz crt screen, they would still be drawn differently

I’d recommend this overview video if you’re interested in the drama. It’s pretty interesting.

So much for Twin Galaxies trying to work out an excuse to defend Billy Mitchell's recording... in fact, quite the contrary seems to be in effect, judging by this announcement:

https://www.twingalaxies.com/feed_detai ... -removed/4

I think that's taking it a bit far. I mean, Todd Rogers was obviously a huge fraud, but Billy Mitchell, as far as I'm aware, is an incredibly skilled video game player.

I honestly don't really think Wiebe cares. Keep in mind, the movie is mostly fiction (Mitchell didn't even have the world record at the time). In fact I'm pretty sure they get along perfectly well with eachother.

Good on the current Twin Galaxy administration, they are showing that they're taking steps in an effort to be taken more seriously by getting rid of the corrupt old guard.

They only put the dispute system in place in 2017, giving the public the right to dispute their record holders. Since then Rogers and Mitchell have already been on the block.

I still appreciate that Jace Hall conducted the investigation the right way and that the right decision was taken

Love these comments by one of the most active investigators on these old fishy scores(who also happened to have been intimidated via legal threats from team Billy) :

I completely forgot about this. Last three months or so have been a predictably bizarre limp to redemption for Birry. Failed score attempts, rimjob interviews, and of course, legal threats to tha haterz. The latter from Billy's fucking kid, apparently.

This guy does decent enough summaries, it seems.

A YEAR OR SO LATER

Oh, here's a bit more. He's suing Guinness, apparently! The records people, not the beer! Twin Galaxies gon get it too! Image

Wonder how many quarters worth of legal bills are going to pile up. Winners don't sue drugs.

It is not necessary to hire lawyers and threaten Twin Galaxies out of the blue to get it to review and consider relevant new evidence - all anyone has to do is simply reach out and directly request an opportunity to present the information.
This is the most relevant part to me. It's obvious BIRRY is just trying to silence, threaten and intimidate TG with legal threats. I like how they mention they'd try to get the case thrown out under SLAPP laws, which they definitely should.
