Surely, 8-bit gaming only exists inside a NES.

Indeed... it would be a bit more difficult with some NEC and Sega goodness slapped in there...

Perhaps if someone did a similar test but with characters from C64 games, I would have made it.

Finland was one of the few places in the world where 8-bit nintendo actually flopped. Which is a real shame, I think :?

Hmm? NES didn't flop here - I had one myself and I saw it absolutely everywhere (marketing machine at work), plus there was the official magazine, merchandise, possibility to rent games...it did quite well here.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

hmm, I picked up 10 right off the bat, eventually managed to make it up to 15. Still have no idea what number 16 actually is.

I can't figure out 3, 4, 9, 11, 12, 14, or 16. I've got a 9/16 so far.

7/16
Pretty good considering my gaming back then was light.
I recognize 11,12&14 but no dice.

13/16 - "I know my Goombas like brothers."

Phew! Good thing I grew up with an NES, I guess. :)

I can't get 2, 12 and 16 though.

That test sucks, I knew most of those but the naming system in the text box had it's own conventions...

How many ways can you type "The Legend of Zelda II: The Adventure of Link" ?

I checked from wikipedia (where the truth always remains!) , and you're right. How did I then came to this impression? Perhaps because me and none of my friends had it - how lame that is  and also, because I remember reading that the first company that officially imported famicom went bankrupt (which was quite amazing achievement really)

It really is a pity that I missed the console, as the few games I tried with famicom were often much, much more playable than anything that was on c64 or amiga.

Another one here - didn't know a single one - all Nintendo I guess? In the UK at least, 8 bit consoles were NOTHING like as popular as 8 bit microcomputers, which pretty much everyone at school had. You had the C64 kids, and the Spectrum kids (and the BBC/Electron ones, but nobody talked to them).

I recognized only Dig Dug, Zelda 2, Castlevania 3, Mega Man and Contra. I didn't have an NES back in the day; I bought my first Famicon games (Macross & Akira) when the system was already dead in 1994.
