Amtrak Extreme IR sense bar

Post by Classicgamer »

Has anyone here tried one of these new (ish) "Extreme IR sensor bars" for Aimtraks?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Extreme-IR-Bar ... 0530!US!-1

I was thinking of giving my Aimtrak gun one more chance based on what I read about them as I'd like to play HOD 4 on my 77" Oled. Apparently... they allow you to use them closer to the screen (like at real light gun distance), they let you use the gun at any angle and... they allow for accurate calibration for games with no crosshairs on screen like HOD4. And they allow use on larger screen sizes.

Distance, angle and accuracy were my 3 biggest issues with my Aimtrak. If they can be solved then it would be nice to use an IR gun for games that used IR guns in the arcade. I was hoping someone here might have tried one to confirm it's benefits are real?

If not, I'll be the first penguin into the sea I guess (the one that gets eaten by a seal so the others can escape).

The description on this sounds amazing. I'd love to hear some opinions too.

They certainly know how to tell a nice story about their capabilities. But, when I bought my aimtrak, the website stated it was accurate for games with no crosshairs on screen and it wasn't.

The only reason I'd consider giving one a chance is that I read a thread elsewhere with someone complaining about all the common issues with his new Aimtrak and then claiming that the older "super IR bar" solved his accuracy issues. This extreme bar is the apparently upgraded successor to the super bar - offering wider sensor angles and greater spacing between clusters.

It still uses just two clusters instead of 10 - 12 like arcade IR guns but I guess that's the only way they could do it without changing the firmware. I assume this means it will still need to be calibrated for each player but I can live with that if it's accurate once I've done it. It would be great if it works for my Guncon 3 too. Time Crisis 4 would probably be more fun on a 77" screen and if the gun doesn't go out of range 8 foot from the screen.
