Re: City Connection is porting the Deathsmiles games
Deathsmiles already has a (bad) PC port, so this must be for PS4/Switch? Hopefully they aren't just porting the 360 versions either, DS2 arcade deserves better.
Re: City Connection is porting the Deathsmiles games
You mean it's really bad, or you being perfectionist?
As i enjoy enough Mushi and DFK ports, but still haven't got DS.

Death mode is missing an absolutely ridiculous amount of slowdown. If you're trying to score, it's a garbage port.qmish wrote:You mean it's really bad, or you being perfectionist?

Re: City Connection is porting the Deathsmiles games
MBL 1.1 is unplayable. It's like the US Xbox release except they never fixed it. I think there are issues with other modes as well - the thread went through them way back when. IIRC DDP Resurrection is the same in some of its modes.
Deathsmiles 2's port was pretty OK (I think there are a few weird things - like aren't some of the enemies in the last stage different sizes?). It would be cool from a completionist's perspective to have 1.00-3.00 included in some sort of package but from everything I hear they'd be mostly curiosities anyway.
So. This would be cool, I guess, but DS was the first Cave game I really got heavy into (and revisited on its PC release) so I'm kind of over it. I always wanted to go back to DS2 though.

Re: City Connection is porting the Deathsmiles games
I wouldn't say 1.1 is "unplayable", it's just excessively hard due to the complete lack of slowdown. I'm sure there are highly skilled players out there that can handle it.

Re: City Connection is porting the Deathsmiles games
This generation of consoles just becomes more and more of a joke every day. Never in history has there been an era in video games where so many of the games released on the current consoles are just re-releases or remasters, and many of them games that were just released on last gen's consoles. I'd love to see an actual percentage of how many truly original games are on consoles like Switch and PS4. I have a feeling it's approaching 40 or 50% unoriginal content, if not higher. Game devs must be loving how much money they can make from charging 5-10 times the current market price for games that were just released not that long ago.

Re: City Connection is porting the Deathsmiles games
I think the odds are pretty low that this won't have some issues with the slowdown emulation (which is already kinda weird in the 360 port), but Deathsmiles is a really good game! Even if you don't like the aesthetic, the scoring and general mechanics are really fun, so I'd recommend it to anyone who hasn't tried it before for whatever reason.
Re: City Connection is porting the Deathsmiles games
I have the limited retail editions for x360 and this is a good news, not only because people who don’t have a x360 will have the opportunity to play it in newer consoles, also we will have a portable version and still 640x480 4:3 output when docked. Let’s hope Nintendo improves the laggy controls and Cave don’t release a shitty port.MachineAres 1CC wrote:This generation of consoles just becomes more and more of a joke every day. Having all your loved games in a newer platform is great news, you can decide if buying the new version and keep the former (or sell it if it’s lower quality) or simply skip it
And think about it: how many games you think Danmaku Unlimited 3, Gianna Sisters, Black Bird, Rolling Gunner, Raiden V.... sold? Shmups are a niche genere, I understand developers try to publish their games to all platforms available to make it profitable

Re: City Connection is porting the Deathsmiles games
Nintendo improved the lag of the Pro Controller a bit in an update (make sure the option to use the USB mode is on before updating). The only controller I tried on switch that seems to have less lag is the RAPV (even in docked mode).

All Cave shmups (except of course, the undumped Saidaioujou), including Deathsmiles, are portable on smartphones, with smooth slowdown and all the great fun that comes with it

Re: City Connection is porting the Deathsmiles games
pretty cool that those who haven't gotten to play ds iix because of region locking get to now
I still pop a few runs in every holiday season so I might even scoop a new port so I can use my 360 even less.

DSIIX was released on the US and EU Xbox 360 digital marketplaces with no region locking, so that's not really a valid reasonSome-Mist wrote:pretty cool that those who haven't gotten to play ds iix because of region locking get to now

Anyone want to confirm?

It is not. And actually, I don't think a single Cave game is outside of Guwange.Shelcoof wrote:I forget if its Xbox One X compatible? Damn, if CityConnection is publishing, this also probably means Dispatch Games is handling any physical release. Let the fucking buyer beware, everyone!

Really? Must have been removed from the EU marketplace since I can't find it, only results relating to DS2 are from the USA marketplace. First Deathsmiles is still there.MachineAres 1CC wrote:DSIIX was released on the US and EU Xbox 360 digital marketplaces with no region locking, so that's not really a valid reasonSome-Mist wrote:pretty cool that those who haven't gotten to play ds iix because of region locking get to now

More like so good. On PC, MBL and especially 1.1 run too fast compared to the AC hardware, which, from what I understand, was the absolute cheapest, bottom-of-the-barrel solution to include what the developers wanted (no hard sprite limits, effects like glow and transparency, etc.).jaberwocky33 wrote:The framerate... so bad
I never understood the community's appeal for the CV1K games' slowdown and I never will.
Re: City Connection is porting the Deathsmiles games
Leaving subjectivity aside (the slowdown is simply cool), it's impossible to play (in a decent manner of course) the games without the slowdown. Even the first pattern of the first boss in Mushihimesama ultra, completely murders you without the slowdown.OmegaFlareX wrote:

Re: City Connection is porting the Deathsmiles games
I agree that I'd much rather have games designed for no slowdown at all to avoid this silly issue in the first place. However, if you're gonna port a game that does have slowdown and especially if it has a significant effect on the difficulty balance, you ought to do your best to try to recreate it as faithfully as possible.
Re: City Connection is porting the Deathsmiles games
I’ve heard bad things about DS II but a physical port that was region. Free for modern consoles would still be great. I always wanted to check it out but I didn’t want to buy a Japanese 360
Re: City Connection is porting the Deathsmiles games
Must've really been out of the loop with that one... other than doj it's been the only reason I keep the j360 outMachineAres 1CC wrote:DSIIX was released on the US and EU Xbox 360 digital marketplaces with no region locking, so that's not really a valid reasonSome-Mist wrote:pretty cool that those who haven't gotten to play ds iix because of region locking get to now

Re: City Connection is porting the Deathsmiles games
CAVE relied on hardware slowdown to build bullet patterns with opposed to being slow at certain intervals or slow from the get-go.OmegaFlareX wrote:More like so good. But hey the PC port's inaccurate and now much harder unnecessarily, but hey at least we get things like glowy effects and "transparency"

Re: City Connection is porting the Deathsmiles games
By the way, did anyone else notice that both Cave and City Connection are listed in the customer list of the exA-Arcadia hardware? (https://exa.ac/ja/会社概要/?v=d8e3950b4591 at the bottom of the page...)
I wonder if that means City Connection will not only port the Cave catalog to home consoles, but also to exA-Arcadia...
