Sony PVM-2130QM - DC VGA Box Question
Hi Guys,
I have a PVM-2130QM monitor, and have had limited success in connecting my Jap DC to it. I've now bought a third-party VGA cable,
in the hope that I can get a VGA output.
However, I didn't check before hand (doh) as to whether this monitor can accept a VGA signal. So the first question is, does anybody know whether it can?
If indeed it can output VGA, I need to overcome a connectivity issue.
The RGB connection on the back of the monitor is a nine-pin male D-Plug, whilst the VGA box connector is a fifteen hole female socket. Are converter cables available, and if so from where?
Thanks for your help.

I have a question regarding this as well, hope you can help...
I have the same monitor, which I was hoping to use as Computer monitor But I have the same connectivity problem.
Is there any way to go round this (i.e. a transformer/adaptor) to connect the 15-pin socket from the laptop to the 9-pin RGB of the Monitor?
I've seen there are adators to 'change' from 15 to 9 pin and viceversa, but not sure about the 15-31hz...?

This monitor apparently has two RGB connections. Would the other happen to be BNC? If it is, and this monitor supports 31khz RGB/VGA (don't know), then it should be easy to get the VGA-->BNC cable adapter commercially. For VGA (HD15 connector, not DB15)-->DB9, it will have to be custom. Naturally, if the monitor isn't capable of 31khz then scratch all of the above.
If no one else offers their assistance, you might consider buying the manual (copied) from Sony Parts or UED.

Err... RGB is a colour system. VGA is a signal frequency.Kingbuzzo wrote:rgb is 15hz
vga is 31hz
So they are NOT compatible. You'd be best to use an rgb cable.
RGB can come in any frequency you like, including VGA. RGB cannot be locked to 15KHz, as it is merely a colour system.
Please use terms like "15KHz" or "CGA" instead of just RGB. VGA *IS* RGB, but at 31KHz.

I'm wondering if there are any PVMs w/31k, or is it only some of the GVM series?
I sure hope he didn't. Maybe the seller based it off of the retail price in 1989 or whatever. IIRC it was around $2900 for the smaller PVM-1910. Real monitor PRO!Please tell me you didn't pay 1275GBP for that.
Another resolution related question:
Commodore 1084's max resolution is above 640x480. Given that, using the db9 RGB connection, are 640x480 games (Mr. Driller, Virtua Fighter 4, Saturn Bomberman, etc) displaying in 640x480? Is it possible low res games might be displayed in that res if I adjust the monitor wrongly? I've noticed Saturn stuff looking a lot better on the 1080.

No it's not. Those games use interlacing to provide a fake high-rez mode - your Commodore monitor is no different from a TV in this respect.Neon wrote:Commodore 1084's max resolution is above 640x480.

The Mitsubishi Diamondscan monitors are ace...
I saw a 32" Mitsubishi Diamondscan multisync monitor showing off a Sega Naomi version of Super Monkey Ball...the graphical presentation of that particular monitor was breathtaking -- razor sharp & very colorful! This game was shown at the 2002 California Extreme show. An analog joystick was made accessible so that the general public could try out the game as it was set on "Free Play" mode.

Re: Sony PVM-2130QM - DC VGA Box Question
Which is the best way to connect the 360 to it?
Re: Sony PVM-2130QM - DC VGA Box Question
Either VGA + UVC/Emotia or straight RGBs + Sync Cleaner. The first option gives you 240p, the later one 480i.
Re:
I used to try this like you, but someone tell me to watch out about The Frequency.omarvl wrote:Thanks everyone for the info! Very very helpful...
Unfortunately, I guess I will have to sell the monitor (btw, no, I didnt pay 1200GBP for it!!)... Anybody interested??
and I scare to fried my PVM via convert VGA to BNC(RGB).
If you wanna play DC on PVM, why don't try s-video like my PVM20M4E.
It's Color and Picture is OK.

Compare my Sharp TV 29" (AV composite) with SONY PVM 20M4E (s-video from DC VGA Box)

It's look good in white color test with my eyes.

Cheers.

OK isn't good enough for most people.
Re: Sony PVM-2130QM - DC VGA Box Question
If your PVM has the 25-pin RGB input, get the 25-pin to SCART converter and a DC SCART cable (ebay):

Otherwise, if it has a SCART connector, just get the DC SCART cable.

It doesn't have vga input.Fudoh wrote:Either VGA + UVC/Emotia or straight RGBs + Sync Cleaner. The first option gives you 240p, the later one 480i.
Re: Sony PVM-2130QM - DC VGA Box Question
That's why I said "VGA + UVC/Emotia".
The UVC and Emotia units are VGA to low-res RGB converters.

Since this monitor is only 15hz capable, am I missing image quality using an xbox 360 in CAVE games? I also had a PVM 2950QM and I had the impression that colors were much better in this one.
Re: Sony PVM-2130QM - DC VGA Box Question
Is it possible to get rgb color using scart input?
Re: Sony PVM-2130QM - DC VGA Box Question
sure, scart is the common connector for RGB sources here in Europe.

Re: Sony PVM-2130QM - DC VGA Box Question
Sorry to bump this old thread but I finally have the chance to get a PVM-2130QM. However there are few questions I would like to ask:
1. Does this thing accept RGB through scart connection without any problem for all retro consoles?
2. Can it accept component signal (for watching DVD use)?
Thanks.

Re: Sony PVM-2130QM - DC VGA Box Question
A nice LCD will be a better option for DVD viewing and will save hours on the old set. No need to worry about component connections in that case. I believe that many PVMs have component - certainly some do - but the 2130QM has something better; the RGB plug (so-called "SCART connection," although not sure if it actually accepts Euro-format RGB signals, or NTSC signals if your monitor is for PAL territories) is found on the back right side of the inputs panel. It should work fine with consoles from the same territory (North America and Japan for a North American marketed PVM; Euro consoles for a Euro set). Hopefully this will work as a provisional answer, but keep in mind this information could be refined or corrected.

Yeah I can see the "scart socket" at the back and didn't think of whether it can do 60Hz until you mentioned it. Thanks for heads up.
