There goes my cheerful optimism.

Stop the world, I want to get off.
Hope all you want, but how many times has a game gone from complete ass in it's first shown demo, to something to really good in it's final form? Uh.... never.
I would have said Metroid Prime (which I still don't feel is quite what 3D Metroid should have been), but I'm not even wheeling out that discussion for this game...

This is going to be sub-Neo Contra. I can feel it.

Hey, i liked Neo Contra - it just wasn't gritty or hard enough, that's all.

And as far as Metroid Prime goes - didn't Nintendo make Miyamoto or someone go down to Texas and straighten Retro Studios out?

Yeah, pretty much.

I love Neo Contra too, but most people don't rate it, and I can't see this game even touching it... :P

Am I the only one who couldn't help but chuckle at the tanks being blown up in the movie? It looks like they completely vanish in the explosion and leave a few planks of wood where they were standing.

Yeah. Compare that to the ultra-detailed animations where they blew up piece by piece, on the 2D Slugs. I'm going to pretend this is only a bad dream, and that MS 3D never existed.

Some games aren't meant to be in 3D. (cough *Castlevania* cough)

Now, a 2D Metal Slug with 3D graphics would be okay if they did it right.

The problem with the graphics is the lack of details. It looks like a game still in development.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

Metal slug 3D makes baby-Jesus cry.

If you buy this, you will go to hell.

That's the spirit. Companies that wreck their franchise like that deserve punishment. Not sure if this will be worth a perfectly good DvD-R, though ;-)

The best solution might be: Playless-SNK.

The low-detail is consistent with the cartoon-ish feel. It looks like it could be a fun game, regardless of how much people hate the "idea" of the game, but of course we can't tell yet if it's fun just by looking at a few screen shots.

I would consider buying this game, since I'm not in a position to be offended by "what it's doing to the franchise." I've only briefly played the Metal Slugs in mame.

Blasphemy!
Nah, I probably would playless-SNK if it weren't for the Orochi collection and upcoming KOF XI, they have me sold.

Metal slug 6 seems like more of the same, I could be wrong though.

how about just by looking at a several minutes movie where enemies don't fire a single shot at you?
i wouldn't even waste a cd-r on this

Maybe that was "no bullet" mode. It would be a pointless game if you just run around blowing stuff up without being under any threat. If that's the case then it is indeed crap.

So this isn't a doujin game? I mean, Melty Blood is finally getting a PS2 port and all.

Not that I'd care for Melty Blood anymore...

Specineff wrote:SNK should learn from Konami's mistake with Contra. After Legacy of War and Contra Adventure (granted, it was more the fault of Crappaloosa than the game being 3D) the franchise has never been the same. And JP is right. It looks like an N64 game. I wouldn't mind if they had made it 3D, but kept it a 2D side scroller.
Better an N64 game then an old jaggedy-arse PS1 game. It doesn't look THAT bad-not as good as the latest, but if it turns out to be fun, who cares.

BTW, Specineff, your new signature is hilarious! :D
