the "point" is not that doing it is fun, the point is either needing the money or the space. My flat is so small, I´ve seen bigger garages, but I can´t afford a bigger flat for now, so if I tried to keep hold of every console ever released, I wouldn´t have room for a bed anymore. Can someone please explain to me the point of buying and selling every console you own 6 or 7 times? Is the whole ebay/paypal/post office thing so much fun?
The "Burning Out" cycle
I can't say anything about the money angle, but as far as space goes, why don't you just stick everything in boxes and pile them up on top of each other? Then you only take out the consoles you plan on playing in the immediate future. Most of us have so many consoles it's impossible to have them all out and hooked up at the same time. A stack of boxes ceiling-high can take care of the space problem.
Except, maybe, if you live in a Japan-size room. And even then, 3 or 4 extra consoles are not going to make such a huge difference, I think.

jp - It sounds like you need to scratch that Border Down itch once and for all! Perhaps with a 6A ALL? - Of course that still leads on to 6B,C and D
. That in turn leads to squeezing all routes for score. Which leads to rigging up an overcooked autofire circuit for yet 'more' score
!
As for buying more and more new stuff, its best to stick to what you like best and only move on when you've fully scratched the itch.

Not to hammer home something you've already heard, but I gotta say...a shooter fan without a PS2 is like someone who loves the outdoors but only looks at it from a window. Go outside man.
And hell, not even a PS1? Wow. Truly, the number of classic games for both systems combined crushes every other system in gaming history combined. The number of quailty arcade ports is staggering. Plus the growing number of retro collections is making older systems more and more obsolete. I probably would have quit games long ago if not for the Playstation.
I haven't heard jp's views of Sony and don't really mean to invite any ranting, but...you're crazy man. A GC, xbox and an xbox 360 but no PS...yea...still don't get it. Ken Kutaragi could steal my girl and poison my dog and I'd still say the PS has something for everyone.

But also the more systems you 'clearly' own the more of a nerd you can be made out to be.icycalm wrote:I can't say anything about the money angle, but as far as space goes, why don't you just stick everything in boxes and pile them up on top of each other? Consoles are for dorks. You either shell out 799 for Ibara pcb or hold your peaceNot to hammer home something you've already heard, but I gotta say...a shooter fan without a PS2 is like someone who loves the outdoors but only looks at it from a window. Go outside man.

What about desiring new hardware so much (but you can't afford it) that it makes your old system dull and boring? I still enjoy my PS2, but I've played on an Xbox 360 and now I want one, but can't afford it! (And I want the real deal, not that Core crap). I manage to get my 360 fix at this gamer club place ($70 for a monthly pass isn't so bad considering that an Xbox 360 goes for $400, and they're sold out everywhere). Oblivion's a good game, miles ahead of Morrowind in terms of gameplay.
Besides, my crappy mono TV wouldn't do the 360 justice. That gamer club I go to is heaven. (Too bad they are a little Xbox biased and they have no shmups there)

Shmups: It's all about blowing stuff up!

But really can a system be too new or too evil if it has a boatload of awesome games on it? There is absolutely no difference in playing a SEGA game (or any good game) on a SEGA console, a GC or a PS2.jp wrote:Once again...
The point of this is that I'm fairly content with what I have, and that I'm starting to view buying "new stuff" as pointless.![]()
I'm not really looking to buy anything new, I'm just sharing the fact that anytime I get something new, I always return to the same 10-20 games until I feel like getting something else thats new.
I meant new for me. Not neccessarily newly released. Granted, this makes no sense since I just bought a PC-FX and plan to buy a Supergrafx over the summer. Something about consoles where I only buy 10-20 games for a complete collection... I dunno.
Hey! Maybe I'll fall madly in love with Zeroigar, Chip Chan Kick, Battle Heat, Lil' Red Riding Hood CHA CHA, Zenki, etc.
I can imagine when buying new stuff = PC-FX.

I'm having a decent day. Angry jp rants only get triggered when I'm half asleep or when I'm having a really shitty day.Let us stop hammering the 'get a ps2' point lest we trigger an angry JP rant.

Besides, I already set the conditions for me getting a Sony console.

I have Harmful Park on the DC... (DantesInferno gave it to me), hell, I've 1CC'd the game. Not that impressed obviously, since I never played it again after 1CCing it. If I really wanted to play PS1 shmups, I'm sure more of them can be played on the DC... but I don't feel like searching bit torrents or haxor sites for games I don't care much about. It's entirely irrational, unless he derives great pleasure from this act of irrationality, from being different and defiant. In that case there would be something oddly rational about his irrationality. Enjoy, jp. Meanwhile, I'm going to go play Raiden dx, followed by some Harmful Park.

I know man! I REALLY need to 1CC Border Down. I just... I don't know. I've never been able to stick with it long enough. Actually, I've never been able to stick with any game consistently long enough. Its always 1-2 week time spans here and there.jp - It sounds like you need to scratch that Border Down itch once and for all! Anyways, glad I sparked some discussion.

RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE!!!!!!
Hey jp, glad to hear that while you're still refusing to get a Playstation 2 (which in your heart of hearts you know to be a little crazy, admit it) you're at least willing to buy another Duo-R. It's probably my favorite console at the moment. It took me several years to realize that there are so many great classic games for it. When I bought my first Duo I got Dracula X, Macross 2036 and a few others and then pretty much forgot about it; I rediscovered it only 2-3 years ago.
Parasol Stars, Devil Crash, Nexzr, Bonk (PC Genjin), Soldier Blade, Sylphia, Splatterhouse, Spriggan, Gate of Thunder, 1943 kai, Adventure Island, Legendary Axe, Aero Blasters, Kyukyoku Tiger, Mr Heli, Puyo Puyo, Bloody Wolf, ... the list goes on and on.
Some of the best games are hard to find, which makes it all the more satisfying when you finally manage to get hold of a copy. For instance, when I bought Sapphire from you I had been looking for a good priced legit copy for almost a year. The day I received it felt like Christmas
After reading that you never even got to play it I feel a little bad, though.
Once you get another Duo/-R/RX maybe I could assist you obtaining an, erm, evaluation copy.
As far as the "burning out" cycle goes, I may periodically lose interest in a console, but that doesn't mean I'll sell it. For instance, I'm hardly playing any Mega Drive at the moment, but I know for sure I will enjoy it again in the future.
