MVS Super Sidekicks 3 - Graphical glitch

Post by viper1701 »

Hi guys,

I just got my hands on a mvs Super Sidekicks 3 and I can't get it to work correctly.

I have MAJOR graphical glitches on both my Neo Geos. The problem starts from the very beginning. Even the Line of the UniBios appeared doubled.

and when the Neo Geo Logo appears, the bottom part is completely scrambled. The PCM works flawlessly though.

What I've tried so far :
- Complete reflow
- Thorough cleaning.

Any ideas ?

Thanks,

Romi

Does it improve if you flex the board or cart while it’s plugged in?

Do other carts work ok?

If it's just that cart with issues, it's either broken or not compatible with the Unibios.

Super Sidekicks 3 works fine with the Unibios.

Answering all previous :

It behaves exactly the same on my M4f and on my AES with converter

Moving the cartridge doesn't change a thing.

The PCB is really in good state so I suspect a ROM I could try to replace with an eprom but I'm not sure which one.

Have you tried running the cart checker in the Unibios? Not sure how reliable that is, but it would be my first thing to try if a cart was faulty.

:/ I hope you get it fixed somehow. I love the Neo Geo football-games :)

The cart checker can't verify the CHR or FIX ROMs, which is where you're having problems. In particular, it looks like some higher address line for one or both of those layers is stuck.

The Neo-Geo logo in the UniBios comes from the CHR bus, while the general HUD / overlay comes from the FIX bus. Those address pins are the ones you want to look at. I do not know this game in particular, but perhaps there is a degree of bankswitching implemented for these busses, and whatever drives that is stuck or broken.

Otherwise, the ROMs inside could actually be bad.
