The RT can passthrough the 240p signal, which the OSSC can then scan convert up to 5x line mode. I hope that's what TC has been doing instead of sending the OSSC the subpar line-doubled output of the RT. This should work fine as long as the HDMI-to-VGA converter (I wouldn't trust any HDMI-to-component one) is treating the 240p signal appropriately. The HDFury 3 I tested in such a setup worked as expected. I assume the cheaper Tendak dongle should be similar, again as long as the RT is set to passthrough mode.

Get Amazon's s-video/component/composite to HDMI converter I previously recommended and go into the OSSC. It's simpler, easier, and you'll find more often than not, it just works!

that may very well "work" in the sense of giving an image, but the quality problems with respect to sampling will be exactly the same as the RT2x

chaining a ADC device through a DAC into the OSSC's input really just defeats the whole purpose of the OSSC

I mean, I see where you're coming from, but I'm trying to get him online here. If his system is working for ~99 out of ~100 systems, how often does he use an Atari 800? I'm guessing not very, so I'd sacrifice the quality to "meh" and be done with it.

I stand by what I said about the RT2x < OSSC though, especially considering his seemed to randomly bork itself, and my past issues with the unit.

I agree completely the OSSC is vastly superior, but it only shines when it is digitizing the original signal is all I'm trying to emphasize

Anyway the RetroTink is the middle of a RMA process waiting to be returned and replaced
When i get it back it's a matter of working out how to use it with to much hot swapping of cables for multiple systems

the way i would sum up the RetroTink is like this

PROS:

Nice and small and compact

Cheap

Good performance

Cons:

Dinky diddly and fiddly buttons and ports

HDMI and DVI selection by unplugging and plugging powered unit and messing with buttons bad

No indication of when of HDMI or DVI has been correctly selected

No simple on or off switch

Awkward and troublesome method of using firmware

Chaotic mess of wires or cables when used in conjunction with other devices

Which specific version of Amazon's s-video/component/composite to HDMI converter was you referring too theirs quite a few?

Just wondering if this would be a better solution completely by passing the RetroTink and coming direct into from the systems into this below

https://www.amazon.co.uk/LiNKFOR-Conver ... 9337&psc=1

or

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1080P-HD-AV- ... 2893412616

Does anybody know of a better S-video/AV to HDMI Converter then two i have linked too something that's known and trusted to work with out fuck load of processing or other issues?

then into https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32962189058.html then into the OSSC 1.6 OUT TO HDMI

I'm guessing you're not willing to commit to SCART at this time? I know I've linked this before, and thought it was in this thread, but I can't find it. I use this daily, and as long as power and signal cables are isolated, there's no noise. It has composite/s-video/HDMI in, so you could even integrate the RetroStink if you really wanted to. It's a (relatively) inexpensive way to simply get a signal through. Doesn't seem to be available at Amazon.co.uk though!

amazon.com/gp/product/B00CQLIQD4

also direct link from Monoprice: www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=9994

Maybe a better solution would be the Extron IN1508, which can be had for a song on EBAY. I have that as well and it accepts various inputs, and outputs VGA!

https://www.extron.com/product/in1508
https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from ... 8&_sacat=0

I want to be clear that these solution have been good enough for me, the more tech minded at Shmups may disagree or have better suggestions.

Not sure what you mean not willing to commit to SCART the OSSC1.6 already has SCART/RGB input
That's the thing i will say for OSSC 1.6 fantastic SCART/RGB input for systems like Amiga 500/Amiga1200/Atari1040STE/Acron Electron instant plug and play no fucking around never had to config anything for a near perfect display

The IN1508 is absolutely good for what it is, but it should be noted that 1) it does not understand 240p, treats it like 480i and applies deinterlacing; and 2) the scaler cannot be disabled, so it will always be scaling and adding at least a frame of lag.

It's been over a year since I've used mine; is it immune to resolution-switching blackouts? (Should be with 240p<->480i, since it can't distinguish them.)
