CRT bleed / ghost??

Hi, can someone tell me why this happens to many monitors / tvs? It is noticeable especially with solid colors, for example in the picture shows some kind of reflection / ghost when you rollover in the menu.

Almost certainly interference. It shouldn't occur.

First suspect; fault is with a particular cable, poor/broken shielding and or ground - might be fine on some montiors not on others. Also check it's simply plugged in fine and not half hanging out (simple things first ).

Happens with all devices and cables on this monitor?
Second suspect; is something like a speaker or a massive lump of metal interfering with it, got the vga(?) cable (particularly coiled) around a whole load of power cables...or is the cable very long (more than 5m)?
Try moving it to another room and seeing if the effect is the same in case there's a girder or something in the wall.

Third suspect; something wrong with monitor.

It’s called horizontal smearing. 12VoltVids on YouTube has a video where he fixes it on a set. He replaced a high voltage cap near the flyback.

I have 3 identical monitors, 2 have those symptoms, the other has nothing, I was watching the video on YouTube and it's the same problem, thanks!

Hah, i have the ESR meter he's using. It's one of the old Dick Smith kits from Silicon Chip. Handy little piece of kit.

I was hooked on this channel for a while there.

I had to do the same repair to the Panasonic I modded for my arcade cab.
