DC problem - oddity

Post by SuperGrafx »

Hi all, I just ran into a rather weird issue with my DC console.
It's a US NTSC console manufactured in Aug 2000...I've been using it to play my US and JPN games (via DC-X and Innovation commercial boot discs) and have never had any issues with it.

Over the weekend, I decided to play a few rounds of Radirgy. I put my DC-X
boot disc in, the boot screen came up and I opened the lid to pop in my Radirgy game. Trouble is, it won't load anymore. That is, once I open the lid to my DC and pop the game in, the drive doesn't spin to read the disc. Prior to this, it worked perfectly--any import game I threw at it played just fine.

I tried the other boot disc and other import DC games, same problem.
It still plays domestic games just fine, but suddenly has stopped playing import games.

Anyone encountered this? What could have caused this?

If your GD-ROM drive doesn't spin anymore you might need to recalibrate the laser.

No no.
It spins fine and reads domestic games perfectly.
But upon loading my boot disc and changing discs when prompted, the drive won't read any import discs. Something it did just fine until this weekend. I don't understand what happened.

Nope, my import games are 100% authentics. I don't use or keep CD-R's.

It could be the switch that detects if the lid is open/closed. If it's stuck, DC-X won't realize you've opened the lid, nevermind inserted your game disc and closed it again.

This link shows you where to find the switch...

It relates to a problem caused by a poor switch contact. Yours could be the exact opposite.

I've had similar problems but I blame a bad DC-X.
I think my disc was scratched or something.
It seems everyone should take extra care of their DC-X discs as it seems to be very sensitive. I took reasonably good care of it, but I should've "placed on a paddestoole" (if that makes any sense/suppose to be a saying)

Well I did try a different boot disc (Innovation brand) and I had no luck with that one either. I tried experimenting with the lid latch as well with no success.

Basically, I just decided to bite the bullet and buy a japan console to replace this flaky unit.
