A next-gen successor to NiGHTS using the 3D Revolution controller, would make a lot of people very happy. E3 can't come soon enough. This is probably just the tip of the iceberg of interesting announcements.Famitsu wrote:最近独立したクリエーターが開発を手がけた

Indeed, that's what the guy at 2ch says. I guess we'll see.

I was under the impression that the rumors of Naka leaving Sega were just that... Has there been confirmation that he left? Or is this a reference to Ooshima?Famitsu wrote:最近独立したクリエーターが開発を手がけた

Oh boy... I didn't realize E3 was coming up soon. It should be really interesting to see what companies are going to be developing and producing games for the Revolution console.
I'll be damned if Sega makes a sequel to NiGHTS for Revolution. I don't know... It just seems totally unexpected, you know?

Yea i'd like to know this too. Did Naka really leave? I also heard rumors but refused to believe them.Kiken wrote:I was under the impression that the rumors of Naka leaving Sega were just that... When Naka was talking about Air NiGHTS for the DC back in the day he said it would have to have a special controller, he then rolled up a magazine and waved it in the air to demonstrate what he wanted to do with it.
I think a NiGHTS sequel on the Revolution is a no brainer given that. Though does Naka retain the rights to NiGHTS? Or would he still have to do it under Sega?

Ah, but the key difference is that arcade racers (non-sim and non-street) are just as much of a rarity nowadays. The RR style of simple, lap-based, no-customization, drift-focused racing doesn't really exist anymore either. Stuff like GT and Forza don't play very similarly (competitive-play-wise) to RR at all (and even PGR is middle-of-the-line different).Super Laydock wrote:![]()
I hate this type of response but in this case i just couldn't help it... (preferring yet another racing game to a sequel of such a standout original game
I dunno if you can blame him for the last several Sonic Team games. If I'm not mistaken the last one he was really that involved with was Billy Hatcher (which, granted, wasn't great).Naka can't make great games anymore. Whatever he makes will end up being, at best, mediocre.
I hope I am wrong.

We here shall not rest until we have made a drawing-room of your shaft, and if you do not all finally go down to your doom in patent-leather shoes, then you shall not go at all.

True, but Outrun 2006 is just around the corner for the XBOX and PS2. I used to hate sim racers until I got Forza; very nice controls, and a great selection of cars and tracks right off the bat.Ganelon wrote:Ah, but the key difference is that arcade racers (non-sim and non-street) are just as much of a rarity nowadays. So, other then Billy Hatcher, what lousy games has Naka been involved in?
I'm stoked for E3 as well; G4TV has awesome coverage from the floor of the LA Convention Center!

Well I haven't played Episode IV but PSO Episode III is/was good even as an offline game.Specineff wrote:If Naka was involved in the last PSO efforts (BB, yuck), I say good riddance.

[Elitist jerk bastard mode] Card games are for nerds. [/EJB mode]
No, seriously. From an action RPG to a card game? What the hell was he smoking? And don't get me started on how the games lacked quests even though they charge a montly fee. I'm sure Naka spent it all on coke to snort.

The turn-based nature of Episode III with strong offline play brought back good memories of the original Phantasy Star games.
Like you I was skeptical of the change to card-based skills in an RPG, but after surprisingly strong word-of-mouth I picked up the game cheap and it won me over right away...

Nice of them to name their source that doesn't exist. If it was coming to the Xbox360, it would've been at the Xbox love-a-thon earlier this month. I stand by my earlier claim. You won't see this on any next-gen hardware for quite some time.Thunder Force wrote:New announcement

EDIT: Apparently lots of places are announcing this, and SoA and Europe announced it -- not SOJ. Think there's a chance they won't even bother w/ JPN Xbox360? That, would be a huge slap on the cock, wouldn't it.
It's a 5 year old game -- what'd you expect? If Naka was involved in the last PSO efforts (BB, yuck), I say good riddance.

With all the Genesis and TG-16 downloads, I am definately sold on the Revolution!FRO wrote:New NiGHTS game? Yummy!!! That would be nearly reason enough for me to plunk down the money for a Revolution, especially considering it will cost less than a 360 or PS3.

So, did Naka have anything to do with Shadow the Hedgehog, or any other crap like that?

I wonder how many he actually came up with. Everyone says he's "the one that made Phantasy Star" which is not true. He was apparently VERY anal about programming and was able to do amazing things w/ the SMS. Saying he is the creator of Phantasy Star is just miles from the truth.
RegalSin wrote:New PowerPuff Girls. They all have evil pornstart eyelashes.
He's credited on Shadow the Hedgehog because he's now something like the executive director of Sonic Team -- AFAIK he didn't have any real creative influence on that game. He's still somewhat culpable, to be sure, but he didn't design or direct it.
And circuitface, you're a bastard.
