Kyuukyoku Tiger II.. Eeek..

Post by iatneH »

I just got this Saturn game in the mail today.

OH MY NUTS this game is HARD. Like, harder than Ibara. Tiger Heli kicked my ass as a kid, then 15 years later I discovered KKKT which kicked my ass some more, and now this.

Any survival strategies? I've barely figured out how to take apart the 1st boss safely, and I still have to use at least one bomb to do it. I even use a bomb on the stage 1 midboss. If I lose a life and power down, my gun is already too weak to kill many of the enemies in stage 2.

Loving the old-school feel of the game, I'd just like to stay alive to see a little bit more of it.

Well, well this game is evil.

I got this problem too when I first play it. :o

Do you know you got stronger shot if you tip the fire button faster? :) The faster you tip, the stronger the shot. (Your shot change color) Only the Green weapon won't become stronger when you tip rapidly. :o And this game don't got ripid fire button. :x

It was said that if you hold the fire button after tipping rapidly, you would keep firing the powerful shot, but I haven't try that yet. I keep playing the game with a Saturn Joystick that got Hardware auto fire.

One more thing, do you know the 2P ship got a different Green Weapon?

I saw the different green weapon just letting the game idle.

I did not know about the stronger weapon when tapping, I will have to try it. My joystick also has autofire, I will see what happens. As it is now, boss battles are very long and dangerous...!

Second that. I find the game difficult at first due to not knowing about the increase of firepower by tipping rapidly.

And then I found that the Green Weapon is the only weapon that is powerful enough to use (w/o tiping). So I only use the Green weapon for some times. I thought the game is too baise and only got single useful weapon.

Only later when I found out the increase of firepower by tipping rapidly, I could finally play it normally. :o

BTW, it is said that the Saturn Mode got Extra Stages.

Sticking this game in again I remembered why I didn't like it. A real middling effort by Takumi before they found their own 'thing'. Ugh...

Not a bad game if you use the green weapon. The tapping shit on the other two is just stupid.

I recommend checking the ST section for each shmup you purchase, you might find out something new even if you're not into scoring much.

Damn, I really suck that much then? This is embarrassing.... Then again I was using the red weapon, no rapid tapping, and trying to avoid using bombs...

My only problem with the game is that the chopper seems too damn slow. ...not that I play it any more.

Kyukyoku Tiger 2 was never released for the PCE, only KT 1 was (and it is indeed a hard game).

Rando has a nice review of this, as I recall. But I lost my link to it. Perhaps I'll find it later.

In any case, don't forget Rando's strategy guide:

Yeah, I really ought to check out the STs more often. I've only looked at about 4 or 5 in total....

I love this game, and was thrilled to see that it had gotten a Saturn port, because I played over here as Twin Cobra II when I was younger. LOVE the graphics, but, yeah, the weapon system is pretty unbalanced-green is definately the way to go!

Pretty cool if you've got auto fire.
Without auto fire, this game is good for one quarter in the arcade only.

Yeah, the green weapon allows you to use autofire w/o powering it down (like the red weapon especially). The only problem w/ the green weapon is that on the lowest power setting it's kinda weak & hard to use. However, if you can get fully powered up & switch to the green weapon & then stay alive, it's much easier. I can only say that because w/o using the green weapon I can barely pass the first level on 1C. With it, I can usually get to the end of the 2nd or even 3rd level on 1C, though at that point I usually get my butt handed to me.

Having said that, does Saturn + come with Autofire setting?

I 1'cc the Arcade verison back in 1996, but from what I saw, the Saturn port does seem to be a lot harder.

That does it BulletMagnet. _I_ am now the official low bar of shmups.com

I'm doing a bit better with autofire + green weapon, but I'm still getting murdered near the end of the second level.

That's about where I reach now. Those jets in mid stage nearly got me everytime. Manage to reach the boss, but got killed afterward. Just in need of more pratice.

Currently busily playing the first Kyuukyoku Tiger...

Never! NEVER! That's MY title! Heck, around here it's about all I've got!

In any event, it's probably worth noting that I definitely wasn't playing for score...I bombed rather liberally (for me, since I tend to hoard), so I lost a bunch of points on the end-of-stage bonus, I think I finished with around 8.3 mil. Also, though I don't recall hearing anything about it, I was playing the "Twin Cobra 2" version of the game...is the "Kyukyoku Tiger 2" version any harder, or anything like that? If that's the case then I need to get back to work, heh heh.

So how do you get enable autofire in Saturn, or is that simply holding the button rather than the more powerful rapid.

I think this Wooden Message Board suit us:
Image
It reads "Fight hundred times, Lose hundred times". i.e. Lost every time.
I know none Japanese the small words are beyond me. Anyone translate the rest for us?

It could be bought here at Palet Mail's online store:
http://www.paletweb.com/selectpage.asp?code=00255

P.S. - There would be new Dojin games being listed in Palet Mail soon.

I’m quite sure that Twin Cobra (World) is easier than Kyukyoku Tiger, so the US version is possibly easier too.
Someone who’s more familiar with the games should look in to it.
