I played badly. I lost one life to the fourth midboss AGAIN (this still happens quite frequently), then another one at the fourth boss, who isn't much of a problem normally. Unfortunately, the Milestone logo refused to appear, so I had to face the final boss with only three lifebars left. Need I say that I didn't even beat his first form?

You need to explain to me what you do that makes the fourth boss easy. ^_^Herr Schatten wrote:76,232,340 - Herr Schatten - 123 laser - 5 - 5 - 97%

Hmm... I usually don't do so well on the 3rd one either. However, my issue on the 4th boss is that irritating mesh of blue-lasers he starts up before he dies. I haven't found a way to kill him without bringing those out, and I can't figure out how to dodge them.Twiddle wrote:Treat it like the third bossAlske wrote:You need to explain to me what you do that makes the fourth boss easy. ^_^Herr Schatten wrote:76,232,340 - Herr Schatten - 123 laser - 5 - 5 - 97%

There's a triangle safe spot right between the cone of fire of the blue lasers, right up in front of the boss. Usually, you'd have had to have destroyed the antenna then--otherwise you're proper fucked. Time your ABS usage correctly at first and keep shooting and swinging and you can just absorb the shots fired by the rotating turrets while in the triangle safe spot with the ABS bomb.Alske wrote:Hmm... Destroying the antenna makes the stage 3 boss easier as well.

If I hadn't messed up in the first stage my score could rival Kiken's.
I collected enough items to make the Milestone logo appear, but I failed at activating it. How many hits does that thing take?
Anyway, I was quite surprised with my performance at the last boss, which actually wasn't too bad. I even killed the first form this time.

I managed to make the Milestone logo appear. Unfortunately, it appeared in the middle of a bullet storm and I couldn't grab it. Had I gotten the life refill, I might have finished with a much higher score, but as things went, I threw my remaining two life bars away at the first form of the boss. Oh well..

After not playing at all for a couple of days, I beat the game on my first run. It seems that sometimes it's helpful to take a break. I never played this good ever before. I'm quite satisfied for now and will let the game rest for a while.
Anyway, the game turned out to be much more fun than I ever expected and I'm sure I'll return to it one day to break the 100 millions. But that doesn't have to happen immediately.

Great work, Kiken.
For me, the most tricky bit with getting 100% of the items are the trains in stage 5. I always miss a couple there. I think it's pretty impressive that you manage to get all the items with ship speed 3. How do you do that?
With the first form of the last boss I have no trouble at all. Here's my advice: Start with slashing at the left of the two pods until it's destroyed, then immediately use your ABS to point blank/slash the other one. When it's gone, immediately move on top of the bosses "nose" and slash/fire. This is the magic spot of the boss. You'll earn lots of blue pills and at the same time you'll see his energy going down in large chunks. This should almost immediately refill your ABS meter. Now go to the point where the laser cannons will appear and slash at them. You should be able to destroy two of them before the boss starts his needle bullet attack. When the attack begins, use your ABS to take out the other two cannons. Without the laser cannons it's easy to dodge the needle bullets and you can keep your laser on the boss all the time. He should be down to 1/3 of his energy now. When he calls out the three pods on the ground, try to destroy one or two of them quickly before the boss starts to fire, then sit on his nose again and slash away. You should be able to destroy him before he calls out the flying pods again.
For the second form I don't use any strategy at all. The pods and cannons have too many hitpoints anyway. I just sit on his nose again, activate the ABS whenever possible and keep attacking. I normally don't lose more than two lives during the entire boss fight.

Ok, here's what I think I did (I really don't remember clearly how I pulled this off):
The first train comes from the lower left side travelling up. I believe each train is 5 carriages in length (although it could be 6, I'd need to watch a replay to be able to get a solid count). It seems that by the time the fourth carriage on the left comes on screen, the first carriage of the train on the right (travelling down) is touching the bottom of the screen. So, if you sit on the lower left railroad waiting for the first train to appear, you can take out the first three carriages without any trouble (even though each carriage barely makes it on screen, the pick-up box for items is quite large and you'll get all of the items). Then you should move up and to the right to start destroying the approaching train on the right. Once you're about in the centre of the screen, quickly dash back and forth between both tracks while activating your ABS (each carriage is pretty weak and seems to go down with a single swipe of your sword). The trick is to keep your movements tights... don't plow all the way over onto each carriage, just move enough to catch the edge of each one with your sword which should be enough to destroy it, the ABS will make sure you collect the items.
With speed 5 you shouldn't have any problems doing this since you can move much faster than the trains do.
One thing I can't stress enough though is try to kill at least one of those spinning gun platforms before the trains come on screen.
I figured out sitting on the boss during the 3rd option attack sequence, but I'll definitely try the quick takedown for each of the first options as well as sitting on the boss's nose for max blue pills.Herr Schatten wrote: With the first form of the last boss I have no trouble at all. Thanks.
And I guess I should try to record a video, seeing as all the ones I keep seeing online use speed 5.

Yeah, you do.
The exclusive modes have changed rules and scoring systems. (dunno how the exclusive on the PS2 version works, though)

Is there evidence scoring in arcade mode is different in arcade/DC and GC/PS2 versions of the game?
After playing the GC version for a while, I've done a few runs on the DC version yesterday and my score were far worse :-S
A bit off-topic: how can I unlock the score attack in the GC version? That damn game can't save anything on a PAL console >_< and unlocking is probably tied to playing for some hours or beating the last boss :-/

Phew, that stage 4 midboss is a doozy...I dread to think what awaits me in 5, if I ever get there...
