Opened: Old videogame art gallery

Post by MJR »

Hi,

I have opened up a gallery for my old / unreleased / rarely seen video game art.. I think shmuppers might be most interested about the Amiga pixel art I got there.. just go to the front page and click 'AMIGA' on top..

Have a peek if you're interested! Just click on my WWW at the bottom or the link here

My new avatar is actually one from those old archives

cheers

Awesome, man! Thanks for sharing all that work! Such a shame so much of it never happened in full production :(

I didn't leave by then, after we merged and PID ended I worked on star patrol and alien incident.

i left after conquest and joined probe at UK. you can read all about it in the amiga/3D section.

it is very common to have cancelled projects on the game industry. but it is not common that someone posts it all on the web! :D

anyway, thanks for your comments :)

Nice work, especially the Elfmania stuff (damn smooth roundhouse kick!) and those old C-64 games. I suddenly got a burning urge to start doing a game with SEUCK! I loved the sound creation in it, where you can modulate the weird SID sounds.

Most of all I was surprised to see P.I. Dollarally graphics after all these years :) I remember when eons ago there were these mind-blowing screenshots in magazines and then the game never appeared. That Janne Oksanen dude has god-like skills in 2D pixel art, easily rivals even the Bitmap Brothers graphics gurus :O It's a pity that he didn't do more stuff (according to your page).

Anyways, these kind of pages are real gems because they record the history of video gaming and more importantly, give answers to questions that have been left unanswered for too long. Suddenly I started to remember a whole load of other games that looked gorgeous but never materialized, like the Amiga games Gore (was this by Psygnosis?) and M, which I think referred to "mutants". I hope someday someone creates web galleries for them too. Thanks!

If you are interested about unreleased games, you should check out web page called 'amiga games that weren't'; http://agtw.abime.net/

They just got hold of the unreleased snow bros conversion for amiga; which btw is brilliant..!

Just for curiosity sake

AGTW is a project that was started by Akira, the same one from here :)

Edit: well, maybe not started by him, but he was very enthusiastic about it

Ever thought to revamp that old amiga shmup project MJR? The sprites were nicely animated indeed - hey, if there are guys out there willing to pay hundred dollars for Last Hope, why not for a shareware, UAE-enabled amiga shmup, it would be ace!

P.S. the fantasy artworks and elfmania backgrounds are awesome too!

Lovely work, I especially like the cellphone shooter artwork. Also nice to see an artist who is skilled at both 2d and 3d.

Also thanks for the heads up on Snow Bros. -- I'll have to try out that conversion immediately.

thanks..
I donated the old amiga SHMUP gfx to one guy who is posting at the http://eab.abime.net/ and he is doing a shmup for amiga called annihilation, but I dont know how much he was able to use.. he asked me to do some additional scene graphics for it, and believe me I would love to.. if just right know there is no time!

right now i'm in the process of finishing english and french translations for my graphic novel, and I am also going to redump our old zombie killing game for c64 so I can release it in a form that is playable on emulator.. takes all my time..

but yeah, I hope I can do some 2D work in the near future..

Is the PSX demo Spirits Master playable?

Post by PC Engine Fan X! »

For MJR,

Did you do any artwork or animation on the AutoDesk's Animator or Animator Pro programs for the IBM PC platform? I did some 2D animation and artwork using those two programs in the early 1990's.

I was wondering if your PSX demo of Spirits Master is playable or just a graphics showcase dump?

I do have a modified PSX that could play that PSX "Spirits Master" game file with no problem. I do recall that Sony did produce a "blue" colored developer's kit PSX console that could read gold CD-Rs and "master" discs of the actual PSX games themselves...playing USA or Japanese PSX games wasn't a problem with that particular PSX console either.

I like your cool art website...

Thanks! For the record, I only used deluxepaint on amiga or Deluxeanim on PC. Since I now got my amiga1200, I only use Deluxepaint for any pixel gfx for now on - except for c64, where I use hacked art studio (which allow amiga's mouse)

Spirit master is playable. You have to burn it on 700mb cd-rom it should work as it is on a modified psx. I could have done an iso, but I've no time.. it is not a very good demo, though, only 1 character model and 1 scenery.. I am hoping to get better version with all the characters and scenes uploaded in near future..
