Hello Freinds of the Interwebz and/or NetherRealmz,
I recently picked up a JVC H1375SU (S-Video, 750 lines), the display looks wonderful however it has the commonly found high-pitched noise (like a dog whistle).
I'm very confident with a soldering iron but don't know my way around CRT's as much as I'd like to. After some brief searches, I read something about possibly changing all the electrolytic capacitors? Should I go down that path?
Not sure where to start, p/n's for cap's, knowing which ones to replace, etc.
Thank you,
Digitron

Re: My new-to-me JVC TM-H1375SU - High Pitched Noise
When was the last time you used a CRT? Many make an audible, but usually soft 15khz squeal - but most of us can't hear it anymore (just like the super high pitched cell phone ringers the kids sometimes use - which the older teacher can't hear during class).
Could also mean the flyback is going though... I just did a quick search and some say failing capacitors as well but never personally heard of that.

Re: My new-to-me JVC TM-H1375SU - High Pitched Noise
The guy I bought it from said its been sitting in storage since 2010 and was barely used before that, I'm going off his word but I did pick it up from his storage unit so that supports his story...I made a video, not sure if my phone picked it up. I used CRTs a lot growing up, i definitely don't remember them being this loud. Its REALLY bad from my sons perspective, he walks in the door and is like "OH MY GOSH WHAT THE HECK IS THAT SOUND!!!" lol
I discharged the tube then connected it back up, adjusted the flyback and it didn't make a difference.

Re: My new-to-me JVC TM-H1375SU - High Pitched Noise
I wasn't able to hear anything from that video. It sounds to me like you've got the typical 15.75KHz frequency noise generation of CRTs. The fact that it was more harsh on your son's ears lends more weight to that concept. Even so, you could always try a full recap.
Re: My new-to-me JVC TM-H1375SU - High Pitched Noise
Thanks FBX, I have no problem doing a full re-cap, my problem is finding out exactly which caps to replace, I haven't been able to find a service manual for this particular model.
If I can't find a service manual I guess I'll just write down each and every single electrolytic capacitor in there and order a replacement?

Re: My new-to-me JVC TM-H1375SU - High Pitched Noise
Yep, try to measure the diameter, height and lead spacing in addition to the capacitance and voltage. Write everything down to keep a log of location and cap attributes. On the voltage, you can safely use at or higher ratings. So if you find some in the right size and capacitance, but are 25V instead of 10V, you can totally use them no problem.digitron wrote:

Documented which caps go where, removed them, now I'll measure them and spend a couple hours on Digikey, lol..

Digging up an older thread. About to pickup one of these monitors.
How did the cap rebuild work out? Do you still recommend this display and any luck RGB modding it?

It wasn't 10 years, but I used your Cap list to place an order for my rebuild! Thanks.
