Retrogaming stores in Kyoto?

Post by gabbafiend »

Is someone in this forum familiar with Kyoto? I'm looking for some stores there which have specialized in retro games and arcade PCBs.

I lived there for 6 months, but I didn't see any PCB shops. As for retro games, there is a Super Potato shop at this one street near Shijo Kawaramachi. I don't remember the name of the street, but that's where all the computer/PC parts stores are.

There are retro stores scattered everywhere around town, but they are all really small. If I was there right now I could take you to many of them, but I don't remember addresses and it's difficult to give you directions after all this time.

Why don't you just get the train to Osaka and go hit Den Den Town? It's only 350 yen if I remember correctly, and takes less than half an hour.

I've seen a relatively large retro store with 3 or 4 floors in a side street but I'm not sure if it was Sanjo or Shijo. Perhaps this is the one you meant.

To be honest, I've never heard of Den Den Town. Are there some stores you can recommend (espicially PCBs). Addresses aren't so important, it'll do if you know some names.

That street would be Teramachi. On the stretch south of Shijou street.

And yeah, I also suggest going to Osaka.

The address at the top right says they are in Osaka. One more reason to go there.

Compared to HK shops like Cosmic+Excellentcom and private sellers on YJA, likely. Compared to other JPN 'brick and mortar' PCB shops, not likely.

Another good one in Osaka is TESSIN, but they are geared more towards operators and mail order.
