I'm trying to investigate something about the way I approach shooters, and currently part of that investigation involves finding games that look like Daioh. I'm wondering if people can help.
A few points:
- Art is very subjective. I know some people would consider any game that features spaceships to be the same style, others would say every 2D pixel-art game is the same style. I'm NOT expecting a definitive answer to my question, I'm just looking for people's personal opinions whatever those opinions may be. Suggest anything that fits your definition.
- For the purposes of this question I only care about looks. Feel free to ignore matters of mechanics, pacing, powerups, plot, music, etc. They can be the same or totally different. Also you can largely take or leave the Japanese-anime-mecha theme of the final boss too since he's really the only thing in the game that looks like that (I'm mainly concerned with all the other stuff besides him).
- I don't care what platform/system the game is on, how old/new it is, whether it's horizontal or vertical or whatever. Likewise I don't care who made it or if it's a doujin game or not.
This question might be too open-ended to go anywhere but I'm going to give it a shot. Any thoughts?
Any games that have a similar art style to Daioh?
Re: Any games that have a similar art style to Daioh?
The most obvious answer would probably be Shienryu, which is sort of a pseudo-sequel to Daioh. Besides that you may want to take a look at Dogyuun and Gekirindan.
