Power outages -- they make me want to crush things.
Grrrr... just now I was playing some Under Defeat, facing the stage 4 boss. My score was pretty good, and although I was on my last life with only 1 bomb left, I was feeling good about topping my HS. Right as the bastard was about to go down, there was a minor dip in the power -- not enough to shut off my computer, but enough to make my DC reset. Luckily I didn't punch anything, but man-- I haven't been that angry in a while. Anyone else have similar experiences? I think I need to get a foam rubber Big Core to use as a stress ball or something.

We here shall not rest until we have made a drawing-room of your shaft, and if you do not all finally go down to your doom in patent-leather shoes, then you shall not go at all.

If you're experiencing frequent power outages and/or brownouts, you might want to invest in one of those APC Uninterupted Power Supply devices. I use one for my computer and it works just as advertised!

I blame myself - I ripped the service off the wall when I was cutting down some trees a few weekends ago. The service got repaired, but I fear the transformer in the alley (which looks to be a good 50 years old) may have been damaged. Don't want to phone the power company myself, though - I had to replace the meter box and you're not supposed to mess with that. With any luck one of the businesses on the block will eventually complain enough to get them to replace it, although I'm not holding my breath.

As someone suggested here:

I think in order to aviod this problem and protect your DC from Power Shock, you should connect you DC via a UPS unit.
This would completly slove your problem.

A couple of you beat me to the punch - I have most of my game systems, TV, DVR, etc. hooked up to a high-powered UPS. It's a good way not only to keep the power going when electrical storms make the city power grid fluctuate, but also great for ensuring that the electricity that gets to your devices is clean. Most decent UPS units also act as line conditioners, making sure the power you receive is clean & free of minor fluctuations that can cause damage to your components.
And to keep things OT, it's wonderful to be able to keep playing Raiden II once I've reached stage 4 or 5 just because the storm outside has interrupted the power in my house!

I quote a UPS unit as a jock, cannot believe there are really someonte hook up their TV game system that way out there (Even Acrade centre won't did that.FRO wrote:A couple of you beat me to the punch - I have most of my game systems, TV, DVR, etc. hooked up to a high-powered UPS. FRO, what is the cost of your UPS unit? Are you bought it to be used this way well in the beginning?
