Qsound ?

Post by escarioth »

I wanted to use Qsound for my current cab.
Its not one of those big blue capcom so the speaker is mono only.

i got a nice set of speakers i could use so i wanted to give it a try.
I know that the stereo jack at the back needs an amp...i already had one laying somewhere in the basement.
so .. put the jamma into the CPS2...rca to the amp...amp to the speakers AND ....a whole lot of nothing...
yes i did change the mono to Stereo in the system...also tryed that thing with the holding of the volume down for 5 sec. (read that somewhere)

nope...i always get the mono sound from my usual speaker back on the cab...
could it be that my 2 A board had sound problem ?? mono works perfectly.

oh and the amp im talking about is not some big luxery , more like this one

any help is more then welcome :)

Just to confirm, you are holding the volume down button while powering on the cab? That's the important piece, and keep holding it down for 10 seconds once it is powered. That will reset the A board audio section.

You can check in the test menu that volume is turned up, and play game sounds.

Everything you are hooking up is tested good? Does the amp need external power, and are you supplying it?

I've seen similar amps recommended a handful of times, so people are definitely using non-capcom amps successfully. I've done it myself when running games through my supergun, sending the A board rca outs to a technics stereo amp.

well.. you made me doubt myself.... so i tryed for a much longer time and ...it works !

hmm, now i can hear the music very faintly from stereo speakers (that's a start)
but i still have the music/sound pretty loud from the mono back on the cab...

Does it have to be cut off ? i would have thought that it would be deactivated upon using the Qsound option.
Also was wondering if i have to hold the volume button each time for activating Qsound ? when i turn off machine...Qsound still goes silent.
i seem to have to hold those button each time ill power up the cab

You shouldn't need to reset audio every time, unless the super cap on the A board has gone bad. But typically that results in audio being on full blast at startup.

However, having both mono and stereo hooked up at the same time may be causing your issues. Some games output both simultaneously, some don't. But having a load on both outputs could be cause for issue. Have you tried disconnecting the mono speakers and testing?

Well on CPS2 the mono audio comes out of the JAMMA Connection. You can't simply "unplug" the mono connection. (Standard JAMMA audio is monaural, amplified audio).

The CPS2 system outputs unamplified audio via the White and Red RCA jacks on the A-Board. This is intended to go into an audio amplifier and then out to speakers. In my cabinet, I simply used a stereo amplifier from a set of old computer speakers that I wired up. Works beautifully to produce stereo sound out of my speakers.

Have you verified that your amplifier is functional, powered, and connected properly? If the amp isn't working, you'll still get the monaural audio sound via the JAMMA connection but you'll get nothing out of the unamplified RCA connections on the CPS2 A-Board.

I didnt say unplug the mono connection, I said disconnect the speakers. Depending on the cab, theres likely connectors along the wire path, between jamma connector and speakers. Or theres possibly terminals at the speakers where the wires could be disconnected. Or if it is a straight wire run from jamma connector to speakers and hard wired into the speakers, which seems really unlikely, then cut the wires and put some quick disconnects in line. Theres many ways to solve the problem and be able to truly test disabling mono audio.

Had an extra Jamma harness extend.

i cut the mono off...now everything is set right :)
sound is working great. Might not be a capcom Amp but its very impressive.
I can never go back to CPS2 mono sound XD

thanks for the support :3
