...and you're blaming Taito for ports Cave and Takumi did themselves. Cave did the Mushi port (I dunno about Ibara) and Takumi did the GWG port, not to mention the game was fucked up and ran poorly in the arcades anyway. The ports of the Shikigamis, Homura, Raiden and XII Stag are all pretty much arcade perfect. As for demanding better ports, the ports are all 99% shooter fans outside of japan are going to get. I guess they'll either have to download copies in order to not support the horrible, lazy developers or just not play games they would otherwise enjoy because of quibbles about display and filtering (ignoring the fact that the gameplay is completely intact) because of "we deserve better".
Back on topic, I much prefer Under Defeat to Radirgy. I dislike the barrier mechanism, the bullet swiping and the power up juggling/catching. I like Under Defeat because it's simple and straight forward, but still has loads of technique and different ways to approach the levels.
My major problem with this game was similar to the problem I had with Chaos Field. In CF, there was no time guage to tell you when you could flip out of Chaos mode. You either had to count to 5, taking slowdown into account, or keep mashing the flip button. Radilgy's flaw is, with that shield powerup, not knowing when it'll disappear and leave you fucked over in the middle of a bullet storm with no bomb. Seriously, Milestone. Learn a lesson here.
Maybe I'll buy it when it's released on the Gamecube or something here. Probably wouldn't be more than $30, a worthy price.

English, please. With 138 posts under your belt, I'd assume you would be quite familiar with the English language. Regardless, this is a flaw. Imagine Mars Matrix without the recharge guage dosplayed, or the same for Giga Wing, or Homura. Imagine Psyvariar without the level-up guage, imagine Chaos Field without a guage showing when you can return to Order mode. ...oh wait, C.F. didn't have one. Quite a damper on things, wouldn't it be?

Actually, I think in Rajirugi, the shield expands when it's wearing off-- and I think you're invincible for a little after, too. And I think in Chaos Field, you can switch back to the other field whenever you see the wind effect on your ship. One problem I actually do have with Psyvariar is that when the screen is busy, it's a little hard to watch a gauge-- likewise, I don't watch the gauges in the Takumi shooters when I play them.

I have a sense of timing. You should see me play ESPGaluda, since I instinctively know when the "big" enemies on stages 4 & 5 are about to go down, and flip into Kakusei. It's games where a gauge should be displayed, but isn't, is what bugs me.
...And yes, I've mispelled "gauge". Excuse me, I haven't used the word in forever. At least I didn't abbreviate words with numbers... That shit is so prepubescent.
I will continue to "justify" my evaluation copies until it ceases to piss people off. Then I'll still do it, just not flaunt it.
Hey, internet! Wassup? Still got them people with them thar opposing ideals goin' awn?

You, uh, also misspelled misspelled.
Perhaps you shouldn't criticize other the English of others when you can't use it properly either. What's that saying about people who live in glass houses?

O NOZE, TEH IRONYS!
To further justify my actions, though... Seriously, in this day and age, when you can't even fill up your 10-gallon tank for under $20, one must cut corners where he can. And even if it's illegal, it's like the poor man stealing a loaf of bread. Is it wrong? Sure. Does he care? No, because in his position, $1 for a loaf of bread is a lot of money, and in all honesty, $60 for a DC game-- unless it can compete with the Top 10 list of DC shmups-- isn't worth it. Not in my opinion, anyway.

Did you just equate the playing videogames with the basic human need to eat?

Are you for real?
First of all America has the cheapest gas prices in the world by far, If you want to moan about petrol costs come and live in the UK and pay the equivalent of over $70 for 10 gallons. Wah wah wah.
Also why has a game got to be on some sort of universally acknowledged list before you'll say you like it? Are you one of these shallow chart gamers but applying it to this genre because you have no discerning ability to enjoy something unless its said by a majority to be top of the tree?
Oh and when you go and steal your bread today make sure you go for white bread as its the no1 seller so obviously its far superior to brown and wholemeal!

and chaos field has a sound clue a bit like gigawing's "ok"
As well as a visual cue, as has been stated above. I don't really see the need for a gauge with the Field Change. It's not used with anywhere near the frequency of the Kakusei Mode in ESPGaluda. I really don't think there's a single point in the game where one should be waiting on this function. There are plenty of distracting HUD bars as is in Chaos Field, no need to add another that is simply superfluous.

Whatever it is, that makes it so you can hold a shield AND shoot for about 5 seconds.

i'm serious do you want your video games to hold your hand every step of the way or something
Use some proper punctuation, and I'll dignify your post with a serious response. Right now, I can't even read it. Also, substituting "to" with "2" is so juvenile... Hell, when I was in 6th grade, just starting to use the internet, I never used shit like that. I also utilized such abstract concepts as using a question mark, typically displayed as this symbol: "?" (without the parenthesis). Good luck in the business world, my friend.

Hang on... we're back to discussing Radirgy now?
And yes.. the length of time is about 5 seconds. However, I've never seen any need to know the exact time since it's normally used in conjunction with the ABS to point-blank enemies for maximum green and blue pills.
This is just the kind of thread that makes people shy away from the forums. Many of you have such an elitist attitude ("learn 2 play") that it makes the general community here look like a bunch of assholes. Maybe you are, I dunno. Look, we all come from different backgrounds, sure, we could argue about gas prices all day long. Some of us have a couple dozen shmups, some have a couple hundred.
I guess my point is that I would really like to feel, and for others to feel, invited into this community. It is great to hear from people all over the world and their common love for shmups. But this is the internet, maybe it is asking too much to have some sense of courtesy.

It was a more than fair comment, since the shield lasts the same amount of time every time and if you can't get a feel for how much time about 3 seconds is it's pretty hopeless.

Exactly. The only place where you really want to use the thing as a shield is the fifth midboss. There, you will just pick up the icon as late as possible and the shield will disappear the moment the midboss brings out his options, which is an easily recognisable visual cue. If you want, you can use the same strategy for the third midboss (unfortunately not for the fourth).

Eh? Honestly, your all being little punks. Gently pushing Zwei in the right direction instead of 'learn 2 play' would have been a little less infantile. *sighs* Maybe this board needs a 'flamewar' forum like boards of old had. Take all that agresssion outside boys!

But what direction is truly 'right'?
